My wife has spent the week looking for a rental home and finally settled on a 2/2 townhome with garage for $795 includes w/s/g. The home is 6 months old and is very close to ETSU, medical center, etc.

She had a hard time finding a rental that was affordable (the one she chose is more than we wanted to spend), clean, safe and that allowed pets (12 yo cocker spaniel). She seems to be happy with the current choice and she gets to move out of my mothers house (that took less than a week )

As for the rent vs buy argument, it now appears that one can buy a modest home for less than rent costs, but we decided to rent (6 mo) while we look for a place to buy, smart move, but also more inconvenient.

Wife also looked at Greeneville, TN...she did not like it, too far out, too run down in her opnion.

She looked at Erwin, but thought it too far away from JC for a daily drive going to college (my eldest son when he moves here and me....eventually).

My mom lives in Jonesborough, but saying Jonesborough doesn't narrow down where she's at due to the large geographic area that encompasses Jonesborough.

Overall my wife and my son both like TN in general and Johnson City in particular, she's already made one friend there and hopefully will make more. Now she just needs to find a job or start a business, that will allow me to quit my job here in Alabama and join them. I do have an phone interview today with a JC company, hopefully it goes well.

Good luck to those moving to TN, the home prices really seem to have shot up over the last year and the rental prices are not much lower than WA state where she just left. So it's not nearly as cheap there as I thought it would be.

Yeah, I agree with you, but not saying a price doesn't narrow it down either. There are some great areas in Jonesborough. A lot of the development is off Headtown Road towards North Johnson City.

Has she looked at Gray?
