I hear a lot about the medical sector as a great field for jobs in the Tri. But what about marketing or communications? My son just lost his job (downsized) and has a wife and twin boys and a pretty big house payment to consider. (We've advised him to get rid of the albatross house payment, but in this market...well...that may take awhile.

He's in Hendersonville, NC right now and has worked in the building trade as a manager for building supplies. Has a degree in business. He's an awesome writer, and would be a good marketing communications prospect too.
Has anyone here had any experience breaking into communications or marketing jobs and whether he should go that route or really break out into something different. I suggested a pharmaceutical rep...but my daughter says they get laid off a lot and it's hard to get into. If it were me I'd throw the resumes out there and test the waters...see what "sticks" and see if it's a fit.

Would appreciate any and all suggestions. It's a stressful time for him. He'd move to Tennessee in a snap if he could get a job to do it. I've told him about the biggies: Eastman, ETSU, Wellmont and Mountain States...obviously he'll look into those. Thanks everyone for your time.

Well that stinks, sorry to hear it.
Have him get with some employment recruiters in the fields he is looking at. He can find several on the Internet that do regional verses by state so that may cover NC,TN and VA.
I hope it works out for them!

Sorry but if he can't find a decent job in the Asheville market, there is even less chance in the TN market, but honestly, this job situation is nationwide now, just watching the news is nothing but daily bad news.

Good luck

Tony

Thanks, Tony. Jason realizes he has a tough road ahead. He's got a lot going for him, though: a degree in business/marketing, attractive, extremely well-spoken, very personable and gregarious, knowledgeable and able to express his knowledge without sounding pretentious. I have high hopes for him...like any good mamma would!

I DMed the jobs I am aware of. I did not post as a reply because most contained phone and email that I'm sure the employers do not want "harvested".
