Default the big Move & Welding jobs

I am interested also in the JC area because of my daughters College opportunities. She is in her 3rd year as an Occupational Therapy Major and her advisor says there is an opportunity traveling between JC and Nashville for her field work. My wife can transfer with the Federal Gov't and I too should be able to transfer with my job. Problem is My son-in-law has a good paying welding job for Sinclair Oil so he would need something that pays $20-$30 an hour. Is there anything in the tri-state area that could demand that pay-range for an experienced welder? We have about 6-12 months to work with. Thanks for the help.

Hello, welcome to the forum.
Hubby works where they have some welders, he said they can make anywhere from $12 to $20 per hour. It varies depending on several things I guess.
One thing a lot of folks have a hard time adjusting to when moving here is the pay rate, it is lower than other areas of the country. However most see the cost of living as much lower, others see the COL to be the same as where they were from so you would have to weight all that out to see if he could live with the adjustment to a lower wage.
Rather depends where ones debt load is. If it is in housing, utilities and such, would seem lower, if it is credit card, car, loans etc. those payments travel with you and would be the same no matter where you are.
Hope that answers you question a little bit.

Thanks mbmouse,

We are in Wyoming where the cost of living was comparable to TN up until a couple years ago, then things went through the roof with median home prices well over 200k. I will be flying to Nashville next month and then driving to Ashville with a friend so will stop in JC and get some info. Wife and I hope to travel in June or early Sept so we can get a feel for the humidity. Obviously August wood be a better test but I moved from the St louis area to WY 30 years ago and have been trying to get out ever since. Have not experienced that humidity thing for some time now. Anyway appreciate the response.
