I will be attending a show at the Down Home in a few weeks, I am from out of town and have never been there before. What can anyone tell me about it? What time to arrive for the show and anything else about it.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Which show are you seeing? If it's popular I'd say arrive at least an hour beforehand. There's food and drinks (and beer) so you can dine there. I've been in the Down Home when it's standing room only, and trust me, you don't want to stand in there! I've also been to shows where I walked in 15 minutes late and only half the place was full. So it depends on the show.

Otherwise, don't be scared by the surroundings. Not sure where you're from, but if you're not used to kinda run down city settings then the area might be a little ... rough looking. That park of downtown is between Carver and Watauga Square - definitely not a choice location. FWIW though, I live close enough to walk to the DH in five minutes or so and my house is safe enough.

I am from East Kentucky near Pikeville. I am coming to the Steep Canyon Rangers show. I dont mind the looks of the area, but is it acutally safe to park your car in that area. What is the atmosphere like there. Also is everyone guaranteed a seat or do some people have to stand even if you bought a ticket. What is thier beer selection like and how is the food? I appreciate the info.

Steve

Yeah, I reckon it's safe. I've never been broken in to. The apartments on the same intersection as the Down Home have just been renovated and are renting for $950 for one bedrooms, so evidently it's a nice enough area. And with the Down Home open at night, there are people coming in and out of the building and hanging out outside smoking, so it's not isolated.

I'm not sure if they oversell. Evidently, yes, as I have seen people standing in there. There's a few booths at the back, in the higher part of the room, but most of the seating consists of tables w/ four-five chairs, and a bench running along the back part of the lower room. If you're calling to get tickets held, I guess you could ask them. Beer is pretty much limited to the Big Beers of the South - Bud Light, Coors, Michelob, Heiniken, maybe PBR, but they might also have Fat Tire, Blue Moon or the local Jonesborough brewery, not sure. Food is... bar-ish food. haha.

Thanks for the info, the only reason I was asking is that my wife is coming along with me and she was curious about it. We are in JC prety often we just never hardly venture past the malls and such. What other things in JC should I look into doing?

Check out their facebook page or myspace page. Just search for them. I think there are some pictures there. It is a fun place. We had my fathers 70th Birthday party there it was a Hoot. It is a rustic roadhouse feel on the inside.great times

they have a smallparking lot on premise behind the venue..other han that you need to find legal street parking. Just look at the street signs, ect. As for the time....like the others have said it depends on the artist playing. I would get there around 7:30 and order some nachos and drinks.
