What do you think about the Mayoral elections? I don't know them all well enough to really comment right now. However, Dan Eldredge is heavily into properties and development and that excites me in relation to downtown redevelopment. He is a rich guy so I hope he could relate to the working folks of the city,

I'm went for Arnold over Eldridge. First, this is Washington County Mayor, not Johnson City. Secondly, I haven't heard anything from him to say he is a proponent of "downtown". None of the candidates are "focused" on downtown --- that is more for the city mayor and commissioners.

#1 Eldridge was the main proponent of the Wheel Tax.
#2 He is a director at Mountain Commerce Bank, which drew an FDIC for "lack of oversight".
#3 He is tight with many of the county commissioners, who as a whole, I am very unimpressed.
#4 He thinks the status quo of 27 county commissioners is appropriate. The other candidates want to drop to 7-15. (Knox County has 11 I believe.)
#5 He is completely inexperienced in government budgeting, and I feel he would treat it like a part time job.

Eldridge's TV commercials "catching" Arnold making comments at that town hall meeting made me like Arnold over Eldridge. First, because I dont like attack ads. Second, because I agree with Arnold on both issues that was supposed to be embarrasing for Arnold to say.

Other than that, I really know nothing about either candidate. And nobody is even talking about Reeves (who I also know nothing about).

Reeves is a good guy. He got the Wheel Tax on the ballot, where it was subsequently defeated. He is a local gov't junkie. But unfortunately, he doesn't have a college degree, most aren't taking him seriously, and most of those who do vote for him likely would have voted for Arnold.

Arnold is a former JC Mayor, Commissioner, Accountant, Lawyer, and State Rep. He's highly experienced with budget issues, which is Washington County's biggest issue right now (built schools w/o adequate funding). Arnold is endorsed by the JC Press.
