From my last thread, I have gathered that Powell and Cedar Bluff may be another good option for my family to check out. I understand the traffic is a problem in Cedar Bluff, but the houses in our price range look fantastic in both places. So how are the schools? Any other concerns I shouuld know of besides the traffic? This site has been such a huge help, thanks everybody!

We lived in Powell for our first year here, and we enjoyed the community. It was a 'small town' type of atmosphere, and the people I spoke with that had children in the school district were pleased. Not sure where it stands in the rankings, but if it were closer to the Smokies we would have considered buying there.

I live in Powell, kinda, sort of.

Powell is a "community" of Knox County. It isn't really a town. Emory Road is the main road that runs through there with some very small stores, a couple of gas stations, a convenience store and a high school. For the most part, it is mostly sub-divisions. That house I was considering, a couple of months ago, is in Powell. I think the area is a bit overpriced for what it is.

The schools are fine. It has a beautiful new library.

The big Baptist Church on the hill is heavily attended. I think about 1,500 each Sunday. That was the church that we first went to, and I didn't care for. However, I do attend the Methodist church there, on occasion (I work Sundays) and the people are great.
