I remember years ago when the plane I was in started descending into Knoxville... I couldn't believe the smog layer we were flying through. I know Knoxville proper still has smog problems, but I was wondering how bad it is in West Knox, specifically out toward West Town Mall?

Smog? Like in a brown cloud hanging over a city like LA? We don't have that. We can have a lot of haze in the summer due to all the traffic. Knoxville sits in a valley. And we do have the natural "smoke" in the mountains, hence the name "Smokies." Unless their is fog, through three seasons it is very clear.

Well, this was 22 years ago. I rented a car and halfway to Gatlinburg the sky became a beautiful clear blue, unlike the dismal grayish blue over Knoxville. Maybe it was just a weird day. We're thinking of moving to Knoxville and I've read a lot of posts about sporadic air quality. I guess it's nothing to really be concerned about.

Smog, what smog? LOL .... thanks for the link....it's a few years old, so I wonder if we are now better or worse. I guess with all the counties I'm in on the list, that's why I don't notice it. I know during the summer there is usually a haze over the Smokies, but during the other seasons they're very clear from here. I'd be more concerned about the radiation in Oak Ridge!
