Concord dog park opens (officially)

Alan Sloan - Thu, Sep, 20, 2012 Alex, competitve diverKnox County’s newest dog park, which is projected to be its busiest, had the advantage of coming second in county’s construction process.

“We learned a lot from Schumpert Park when we built it, what not to do at this park,” said Doug Bataille, senior director of Knox County Parks and Recreation, as PetSafe’s four-acre Concord Dog Park, in Concord Park, enjoyed its “official grand opening” Saturday morning, Sept. 15.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett and PetSafe CEO Randy Boyd joined Bataille, other top dignitaries and dozens of dogs and their owners at the park, located between Fort Loudoun Lake and Concord Par 3 golf course north of Northshore Drive.

“We knew this would be the busiest dog park in the system,” Bataille said. “Concord Park alone gets over 600,000 visits a year. … Realize that about 35 percent of those people own dogs.” read
