I am thinking of visiting smoky mountains over the thanksgiving week with my wife, who is pregnant - 4 months. It would be a 6 hour drive one way.

My wife is interested and thinking would be a good break (provided we can enjoy the trip), given that her nausea/vomiting is not occurring as it was a month back.

Would it be a worth to visit considering this is Nov end? I am wondering if we can enjoy the colors still...

How the fall foliage and weather would be?

I wish that I visited there at the end of Oct...

Thanks!!

Color? Not so much. The park is still beautiful! Shopping, absolutely! Prepare for tons of people and deals! There will be a lot of decorations and festive cheer. This will be your last Christmas for many years that you two can get away and enjoy so come on down! Dollywood has a great Christmas show and there are just so many great things that everyone can join in the posting. Enjoy the sites, sounds, food! Congratulations on the pregnancy and blessings on your new family!

There's barely any color left in the mountains. Only the bradford pears are turning now. It is a heavy tourist weekend, it can be very enjoyable (lots to do in Pigeon Forge/Gat) but I suggest not driving when everyone else is, if possible. 66 can turn into a parking lot.

First, congrat's on your new blessing! How wonderful!

Second, you don't mention where you are coming from, what area, so I'm going to guess you're north.

The park is always fabulous. Of course, we have lots of shopping areas too. That said, I will mention this. The shopping areas, specifically at Tanger in Sevierville, are packed to the gills. I hate to sound like I'm not thankful for the tourists, because I am, but they are pain to deal with near the shopping areas, especially Tanger. I guess there are times that I just lose my patience with them cutting across three lanes of traffic, with no turn signal....LOL!!!

Traffic moves very very slow at Tanger, and I don't know about your wife, but when I was prego and had to go to the bathroom, I had to go right then and now. LOL. I'd say if you want to shop, go early, if that's possible, at Tanger.
Gatlinburg will be crowded but not like Tanger. However, restrooms are spaced out, so plan accordingly.
It's a nice walk in Gatlinburg.

Temps are in the mid 50's to upper 30's. If you are from the north, you know how to handle dressing wise. The wind isn't as biting here as it is in the flat lands.

Just remember, if you decide to head up to the top of the mountains, it gets colder and the roads can become icy or even snow covered. Use caution.

There are so many wonderful places to visit here, like Beretta said, Dollywood has some fabulous shows this time of year! I noticed last weekend the park was packed, which was a great site to see!! And if you stop in Pigeon Forge, ride the Wheel! Talk about a nice view! The smaller outlet stores are on Teaster Lane and you may like them better, they won't be as crowded.

If I can offer any additional assistance, just ask! Hope you have a wonderful trip and again, congrats on your soon to be arrival!!

Actually I will be coming from South.... Myrtle Beach, South Carolina... Here the palmetto trees are greener and other trees has beautiful colors , with few in the verge of losing the leaves... We do have Tanger outlets and other shopping options nearby... Also weather seems to be between 50 to 65

So it does not seem to be wise to travel to Smoky mountains during the Thanksgiving...

May be it is worth travelling further south from I am... Say Savannah, GA or Jacksonville, FL or Charleston, SC?

Thanks...

One of the most beautiful things about the Smokey Mountains, and the National Park, is that most people who come to the area never go into the Park!

Can you imagine? They come and go through the shops in Gatlinburg, and the honkytonk in Sevierville.

Which leaves you and the Park to enjoy one another in peace.

Maybe you stop in Asheville and go through the Biltmore House. Easily a nice way to spend the day. Decorated for Christmas, it is wonderful.

Then depending on the weather, you head up to the high country and enjoy the vistas, the wildlife, and perhaps the snow at the highest elevations. Get out of the car and walk if you feel up to it, or simply pull off and marvel at the vistas.

If it is cloudy at the higher levels, drop down and go through Cades Cove. Get out of the car here and there and enjoy the documented history. Easily a half day, and more if you dawdle. Might see a bear or some elk. Nothing commercial in there at all.

If you have to do something a little commercial, come out in Gatlinburg and browse through the

The Park is wonderful at all times of the year. Dress warmly, but you never know if it will be sunny and warm, or cold and wintery. Either way it is a wonderful place to spend a few days.

The OP is coming from SC so he can stay in Cherokee. Less crazy traffic on the NC side, and there is the casino there. As far as colors, well as others said they are gone in the mountains. However the mountain views do get better with less leaves on the trees, and winter/fall visability is excellent without humidity. Dollywood does do a lot for Christmas, so I do think its a nice time to visit. There really is something going on there all year long.

Check the weather before you come. That could influence your decision.

You shouldn't need reservations.

TO THE OP:
Since you are coming from the south, Biltmore would be amazing this time of year!! I highly recommend it!
What about Asheville, if you are looking for mountains?
Personally, not to offend anyone, but I dislike the casino in Cherokee. It is dirty and smells like an old bar. We went in there over the summer and I smelled like a dirty ashtray in less than an hour. And I used to smoke, so I can tolerate the smoke! Cherokee breaks my heart...it used to be such a neat Indian place to visit and when the casino came in, it just went downhill. Again, my opinion.

I wish you the best on wherever you decide to go. Dollywood lights at Christmas are AMAZING though!!!!

Have a nice trip and be safe. Again, congrats on your soon to be new arrival!!!
