Hello out there,
My husband and I are mid-lifers and natives of the area. We've been gone a few years and need to set down our roots again. We've got three grown children who are close to us, but live away. We both love handcrafted homes and are organic gardners. We're self employed with interests in reading, the arts, and are quiet, but friendly neighbors. The need for great soil and trees is a must. Is there anyone who knows of an old farm that needs TLC and can be bought "slowly" from the owner? We're originally from the north of the county, but willing to look at other areas. No noise from interstates please. Many thanks to responders...

Send more information, about size, and how much you want to spend, and I will be happy to recommend several counties, either in Knox or many that surround it.

Yes. how much land are you wanting and price range your looking at spending. I bought 8 acres on an old farm that was subdivided and even though it's now a subdivision (but nothing near the usual subdivision restrictions), farm animals are still allowed. Might be something your interested in.

If you have flexibility on location, I would look at the counties east of Knoxville. Prices are much more reasonable and there are some beautiful options. This is my sense since I have been looking in counties on the west side of Knox, due to job needs.

If you are looking on the west side and need land/lower prices you may want to look on 321 after you pass Rarity and definitely before you get to Maryville. I have some friends that bought in that area for a pretty good price on 14 ac. There are other properties for sale close to them - I believe FSBO. Its about 8 minutes to Lenoir City from their house

Just a thought.

Thanks for your ideas. We need a good commute to Oak Ridge---so that excludes some parts of Loudon County.

To all who responded a big thanks. I think we will look in the Grainger county area or in Anderson County between Clinton and Oak Ridge. The timing is to buy within 2 years. How about a timber framed barn in exchange for acreage?
