Hello all, I am considering relocating to the beautiful State of Tennessee and looking closely at the Knoxville area. My fiancée and I have been there a couple times and found it to be a wonderful place. The Smokey Mountains are not far, nor is my fiancée's family in Kentucky. My question is kind of a broad one. How is it living in Knoxville? I'm originally from Michigan so cold doesn't bother me. We've been living in Florida for over 12 years and it's time for a change. I'm a respiratory Therapist and she is a nurse. Wondering what are the best hospitals in the area to work for? What are some fun things to do in the area? Housing costs? I'm assuming home owners insurance is cheaper then the $2,700 a year we pay here on the east coast of Florida for our current home. Any input would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Mike

Property taxes vary on whether you are inside or outside of the city limits and the assessed value of the house. You need to give an idea of the price range in which you would be looking. A good site to get an overview of things to do in Knoxville is https://www.visitknoxville.com/things-to-do/

Many good hospitals, don't know how they are to work for. UT Medical Center, several Covenant Health hospitals and Tennova..

Housing costs vary with area. Better to say your budget but it's cheaper than Florida IMO.

I retired here from the DC area and love it. Most transplants I meet agree.

Things to do: Just about anything you're interested in. Music of all genres, dining. Meetup.com has groups for just about any interest you have, hiking, spirituality, gaming, networking etc. Downtown is very walkable and vibrant.

I always suggest you pay an extended visit, tour the areas and meet the locals.

Floridians keep moving here, so there must be something of interest! :-) It seems to be an easy transition for many.

Home insurance and taxes are dependent on the property/location. Compared to most of the country, both are low in this area.

I'd go to Glassdoor to compare salaries/benefits. For employment, my guess is UT Medical Center would be the best is that it's quasi public sector.
