Hello. My husband is being promoted and trans6to a new airport. We were told our choices will be McGhee or Blue Grass Airport in Lexington KY. I have posted there as well.
Hoping someone could give me zip codes or towns that are about 45 minutes or less commute to the airport. Trying to gather as much info on both places to be more prepared.
Not sure if we will rent first or just buy. We are already preapproved for a mortage.
Rent would like to stay under 1200.00
Buying would like to stay under 280,000.
We would prefer a private residence over an apartment but know that's not always possible.
Thanks.

Maryville is one option. Mostly zip 37804. City of about 28,000 people.

Closer to Knoxville but south of the Tennessee River is another option. Or in Knoxville. Or in Alcoa (population about 9500). Zip 37701. Or more rural.

Shoot, if I were working TYS, I wouldn't mind the commute and be looking to live in the Smokeys, primarily Townsend and/or Cade's Cove :-)

We live in Blount County, TN just outside Maryville. You could find a nice 2,000 square foot house in this area within your price range. While both Lexington and Knoxville are nice, you should check out the total cost of living index in both places. We love this area since it offers many opportunities to do outdoor recreation.

Best of luck in your decision.

ElDiabloJoe thank you for the info. I will check both out. If we can find a great place the longer commute would be worth it.

linnemj I am trying to do the city to city comparisons. We have visited TN and it is beautiful. I will search Blount county.
Thank you for the well wishes

I live in West Knoxville in zip code 37922. I am 2 miles from the Pellissippi Parkway/S. Northshore Drive interchange.. It takes me 15 minutes to get from my door to McGhee Tyson. This is not the least expensive area of Knox County, but there are houses in your price range.

You could live in Blount County in Maryville, or in Knoxville, it is really all a matter of personal preference. I live in South Knoxville and it takes me 15-20 minutes to get to the airport and it was pretty similar when I lived in Old North. There are definitely houses in your price range both for renting and buying, but it will depend on how much square footage you want and what type of neighborhood you are looking for, whether you have kids and care about the public school quality or not, etc. for exact recommendations.

@CBB_bear thank you for the locations. I'm sorry I didn't include the no children info. I'm sorry about that. I will take a look at the areas you mentioned.

Definitely Maryville or Alcoa. Keep your work commute short. All the other options above are also viable. If you can visit here and Lexington and see what floats your boat. You can also use the search function to get more info on the area. City Data has area statistics you should explore.
