Military location advice (Knoxville, Athens, Alcoa: hospital, retire, offer)

My hubby is retired Navy and we are trying to figure out which is the best and nearest Commissary to go to from Knoxville, anyone retired that uses them please offer help??

We've been to the Commissary at TYS and it is a joke compared to what we were used to in San Antonio; full line grocery with meats, sporting goods, etc. We just don't go to the commissary anymore. We would have to drive too far to get to a good one. I'll be watching this thread.

Where is TYS? I think I am going to have to go to Athens GA for a full size one

At the airport (McGhee Tyson) where the National Guard is located.

Ok, thanks, I have to go there I think and get my new ID card, or somewhere over that way, maybe Alcoa (Reserve place)

The commissary is actually at the airport at the small National Guard offices onsite at the airport. The reserve center is down Alcoa Hwy toward UT Hospital. Sorry I wasn't clearer before.

The commisary at Arnold AFB is not too bad, kinda medium size. The base is located by Tims Ford lake. Not to far off I-24; don't remember the exit number but there are signs on I-24 to tell you whch exit for the base. Anyone ever been to Redstone Arsenal in Ala.?
