My g/f and I went last night, the last night of the trip. We arrived at the Sugarlands Visitor center about 4:45 and the parking lot was already filling up. We made it on the 2nd bus, and walked out and picked out a site near the river to relax. Once the show started, we walked to a better viewing area and were amazed! It was breathtacking, all the fireflys! I am from Florida, and we just don't have these little guys everywhere. Next year we are planning on trying to get a spot to camp at Elkmont, so we don't get back to Knoxville at 1:30 am!! But it was worth it!

How very awesome! We are camping there in August but I'm sure there won't be a "show" then. Next year we will camp in June so we can see it. Thanks for the wonderful description.

We camped at Abrams Creek this past weekend - and were puzzled by the tiny blue lights all around our campsite on Saturday night - September 19 -- just did the on-line research and are now very gratified to learn just what it was we witnessed! We saw maybe 20 - 30 little lights all along the ground in the pitch dark. Wonderful!
