Hi everyone! I'm moving to Knoxville from Atlanta in about 2 weeks and I was wondering if someone would be kind enough as to give me the lowdown on Knoxville.
Where should I go to have fun and meet people? What do I absolutely avoid? Thank you! |

Knoxville definitely has a lot to offer for different varieties of people. What kinds of interests/age groups do you have? Thursday nights in Market Square downtown is a great place to mix and mingle with a large crowd. It's a free concert every Thursday with well known bands, lots of foods, beverages, etc. Also, there's a publication called the Metropulse. It's very good as far as listing upcoming events weekly and monthly. You would be able to find and target any kind of social gathering (concerts, art events, dinners, bar promotions etc.) that would interest you. As far as bars, nightclubs, there are many to choose from to meet people and have fun. The Old City downtown is a good place to walk around from place to place, though I would advise not going solo vary late at night, as it is a downtown. And don't go particularly east of the railroad tracks. If you're out west, you might try Bailey's, Ray's, or Wild Wings Cafe, they are very popular hangouts. Welcome to Knoxville!

hi Lexi, welcome to Knoxville. You are older than the college kids but not yet in your 30s, so you may enjoy hanging out on the strip (Cumberland Ave by UT). Course it's a little quieter there in the summer, it's a lot more happenin' when UT's in session. Aside from what William listed, there are 2 popular clubs you might enjoy - Electric Cowboy and Cotton Eyed Joe - both in west Knox. Knoxville has a nice variety of music to listen to - a jazz club (Baker Peters), bluegrass at Wild Wing Cafe on Mondays, lots of country music to be found, and there must be some rock 'n roll somewhere (get that MetroPulse). There is nightlife all along Kingston Pike. Old City is kinda cool/interesting but you do have to be careful the later it gets. Downtown proper is pretty safe though (there is a thread or two about it here). If you prefer bars to clubs, there are enough of them around (I see a lot in south Knox). The other area to get more info on is Broadway - Fountain City area - there must be nightlife up there too.
What area are you moving to? |
