The Farragut Building, at 530 S. Gay Street, has been sold for $3.5 million. According to county records, the office property was purchased by an entity called 5 Torrey Hills LLC. The seller was Avion Realty III LLC.
Update:
John Campbell, a San Diego attorney who is managing partner of 5 Torrey Hills, said that firm plans to convert the building into apartments and (take a deep breath, everyone) "we're going to be talking to some national tenants like TRADER JOE'S in the first floor."
Campbell said the owners hope to start construction in 120 days, and said the renovation calls for 71 apartment units, although some of those will have to wait until commercial tenants have finished their leases.

The plan to talk to them. Well. Ok, but...
And yeah, I hope they come here. And that location would suit me fine, but if I were to travel a little further, I could just go to the Co-op. :/

Exactly. ANYONE can "talk" to Trader Joe's. While I think Knoxville can definitely support Trader Joe's, I'll believe it when I see it.

Me, too. I would love a Trader Joe's, but I know someone who did contract work with their marketing department and TJ's said they had looked at Knoxville and did not think it met their target demographics. But maybe Mr. John Campbell, SD atty, can change their mind!

Wonder how pricey those apartments are going to be?

In the comments, the author of the article "blogged" or whatever that a TJ's rep had called after the deadline and said that Knoxville was not in their 2-year plan for expansion.
