Hi everyone,

Well I posted on here a while back and have posted lately, hadn't had much luck in finding a job in the Knoxville area, until now. I may be getting an offer on a job in Oak Ridge but want to know where to rent, I haven't read the best things about Oak Ridge so I wasn't going to consider that area, but want to find something that isn't too far of a commute (no more than 25 to 30 minutes) and places that have short term leases. I know this may be premature looking because I don't have the offer yet and even if I do get the offer may still not be able to make the move unless my wife can either get an offer there or have a real good chance of landing something right away, plus we still would have to sell our house here in the houston area. Thanks everyone.

There isn't a lot of great apartment complexes in Oak Ridge. I believe there is a new one, though.

Renting in West Knoxville is also possible. That would be about 30 minutes.

And there is the possibility of getting a rental home in Oak Ridge, too. The school system is very good there. There's more transplants than I like in the area, but most of the folks are friendly. Lots of scientists and PhDs. It is an active community as they have the Secret City festival, a World War II re-enactment is usually done and there are lots of free concerts in the park. It's not a bad little area.

You could also chose to live near Pellissipi, too. If you want short-term, there is also so corporate apartments that are very nice and not too bad of a commute.

Either way, you have several good possibilities, so I wouldn't panic. I know it is a lot to do, but all good things have obstacles to get through. Congratulations!

Thanks Hiknapster,

If everything works out I was thinking of staying out of oak ridge for living because I haven't read too many good things on the forum, unless things are changing for the better in oak ridge but some people on here have mentioned crime there as being kinda bad. Anyways hopefully this will all work out and hopefully my wife can find a job there too because otherwise we won't be able to make the move unless we both have jobs.

Crime stats indicate that Oak Ridge has a lower than average crime rate. Yes, there are some comments about crime on the forum. Some of it is good and some of it not so much. I believe it is Laura C. that says that she thinks the crime seems bad because the newspaper reports on every little incident! She's a retired researcher from Maryland that seems to like Oak Ridge.

But there are a LOT more choices for apartment complexes in West Knoxville. Oddly enough, the first place we looked at when we moved to the area was an apartment in a complex in Oak Ridge. It was okay. Nothing special. Nothing bad.

There are several new complexes at Lovell Rd and Pellissippi. The drive would be 10 minutes without traffic, 20 max with traffic.
