Rental prices are much lower in LC, and a purchase price for a decent home also is far more affordable. Some great deals out there.
Best of luck!

$38,000 in LC is like $58,487 in LA.

Thanks for the reply! I've actually been amazed at the rental prices I've seen on Las Cruces Craigslist. For what I pay here in LA for a small 1bd apartment-$1150 per month, I can get a nice apartment or even a house for less than $1150!... there are some very good deals out there.

Yeah I was looking at one of those cost of living comparison websites and that's pretty much what they said as well. Very good to know!

We found LC to be quite a bit cheaper than where we lived in MA and ME -- I can only imagine how much cheaper it would be than LA!

I just moved to Las Cruces a couple of days ago from a smaller town in NM. So far I really like it. I have a one bedroom "duplex" with a small yard that has a five foot rock wall around it. My dog is happy with this. I pay $540 a month but I also have to pay a 23 dollar monthly fee for my dog to live with me. Guess since he sleeps on my bed I get a discount!! I find I really like Cruces. The people are friendly, It is pretty safe to walk my dog...so far no dogs running in the streets like my "old" town. It is clean (no trashy streets) and the town is easy to get around in. I am single and do not go for the "night life" but I have been told there are a few around and they seem to be popular with the friends who told me about them. The State University is a nice campus and they have lots to offer. I have yet to check out the gyms in the area, but heck, I have only been here a couple of days. I think you will like living here. I agree it can get hot and being a white person you have to be careful in the summer.

There are some specialty car clubs in the area, here is one which covers all cars and has a web site: RodRunners Car Club, Las Cruces

Looking for a new place to live, any ideas? I need a better place to live with cheeper housing cost. I worked in Deming, NM in 2005. Loved the area, like being near heaven. The people were great, at least those I met working for Sprint. I moved here this year, August 2012. What a change, people are nasty and mean in this town now. The housing prices are over $100,000 for a home no one has lived in for 3 or so years. Who wants a high cost of housing and then thousands to re-build the run-down houses here. Most of the town is closing down, I've seen 5 business close. The lines at the drug stores are long and 4 to 5 hrs to get prescriptions. Water levels are dropping and most wells need re-drilling.
