My husband and I moved to Las Cruces in 2011 from Wisconsin. Previously we had lived in Colorado and Virginia - states with lots and lots and lots of snow. Las Cruces has been a really nice change of pace for our little family...things are much more relaxed than say Madison or Chesapeake or especially Denver. Traffic here is not bad at all, there are plenty of things to do for nearly everyone, and if you ever get a hankering for the 'big' city, El Paso is not very far away.

As far as nicer neighborhoods, do you mean newer neighborhoods near chain retailers and restaurants? I ask because when we first moved here we were looking up near Roadrunner where a lot of the newer developments are but ended up choosing family housing on campus because we got the impression it was otherwise very expensive. We realized after living on campus (dreadful experience btw) that some of the nicer neighborhoods were older and way more affordable than what we had previously thought. Currently we are renting a large 2b/2b with a large landscaped backyard for under 700 - 3 parks in the area, close to the library, grocery stores, local eateries, and all of that is within walking distance.

I highly recommend spending some time in Las Cruces, even if you decide on somewhere else. It's a nice little place.

Good reply. PUBLIC University means just that - serving everyone, not just the enrolled student body. There may be some limits on the degree of service available to non-students, but generally there is no restriction on activities (research, etc.) that occur within the library proper.
