Hi,
Thinking about moving to Las Vegas - have any ideas about the best areas to live in? And with the least about of crime?

A lot of us live in the NW which is one of the newer parts. Close to both 95 and 215, good restaurants, fantastic library and YMCA at Centennial Hills, very close to all shopping needs.

Very little crime, mostly property crimes.

I used to live in Centennial Hills, and my only real complaints were the lack of new bookstores, and that the RTC didn't go to the outer reaches of the area, especially to the end of Jones.

There are a great deal of areas that are nice to live in here in the Valley. That question is a pretty broad stroke without knowing what you intend to do. Rent vs. own? Price point? Transportation? Where in town will you work/commute?

There is no shortage of posts on this message board that cover your question. Be more specific and we are happy to help.

You really can't go wrong in Summerlin South, Southern Highlands, Seven Hills, Green Valley, McDonald Highlands. Price points span the gammut. Each have their pros and cons.

I like the NW and Summerlin best. I live by Ann and Rainbow and it is great. Albertsons is right around the corner, Im VERY close to 95 and 215, as well as great shopping choices. I love going to the Smith's at Ann and Decatur, the employees are so cool

Further up by Decatur and 215 is a Target, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, tons of small cafes and shops. Also by 95 and 215 is another Target, Vons, Centennial Hills YMCA

I like Summerlin simply for the beauty, and the views in the higher points of that area. Shopping is mainly upscale stuff, but I like the Target at Rampart and Charleston. Summerlin is also convenient to Best in the West which is at Lake Mead/Rainbow/95

The SW and Henderson are nice as well, but they are not for me. The SW is still brand new and has a lot of gaps to fill in. And Henderson, is just too far from everything I have in Summerlin and the NW for me to have any business going there

I live in the southwest, therefore I think the SW is best! Not far from the 215 beltway, have three hospitals within a 5 mile radius, two (not one!) Walmarts, major grocery stores and shopping areas, 7 miles from airport (to close, that's why I'm the airport chauffeur for relatives/friends), eight miles from strip, community parks, post office (which I hate to go to because lines are endless) and all the other necessary amenities.

DavieJ89....I like the gaps! I'm sure they won't be 'gaps' for long, once the economy straightens out.

First you have to tell us what kind of place you usually live in. Are you Bel-Air mansion or single wide trailer park? Are you looking for ethnicity, WASPish, or mixed? Well most of it is mixed, so never mind. Anyway, mountains, or lake, or don't care?

But generally most areas of town with only a few exceptions are good. You'd recognize the bad areas as soon as you saw them. Probably the best area is either west (Summerlin or close to it) or northwest. But southwest and south (Henderson) has some good locations too. It all depends on your budget and your lifestyle. One thing I'd point out though is that our "bad" areas are generally pretty middle class. No part of Las Vegas is really as old as you find in most cities. Most of it was built after the 1950s.

I like to live in areas that are not TOO busy but not TOO quiet either/ The SW is too quiet, and the strip area is too busy. the NW is a nice middle ground, never too crowded yet never to desolate. Traffic is usually never bad, and Im close to everything I want and need

Its the rural areas and vacant land that provide a nice buffer for the southwest. I like the fact that even though Southern Highlands is medium density, the surrounding area is quite rural and it's probably going to stay that way for at least a few more years.

Less traffic, less crime, less people...but I still have all the amenities that everyone else enjoys. Parks, trails, shopping, freeway access, easy access to Red Rock, Town Square, airport, resort corridor, henderson are all easily reached.

With light to moderate traffic, you can reach any area of town in 30 minutes from I-15/Silverado Ranch.
