Maybe a more similar comparison is that of German grocer Aldi which is growing even in this period of woe. Their business model is working.

Aldi's and TJ's are owned by the Albrecht brothers. The owner of TJ's, Theo, passed away fairly recently. The other brother, Karl, owns the Aldi food stores.

Operated as two separate companies, but probably some similarities in business philosophy between the two.

I have not been in a Trader Joe's, but there are some products at the local Aldi's I think may have been inspired by TJ's. Some good, cheap olive oil, good buys on great chocolate and nuts, and a very good ginger peach tea.

So, where would you go, Pink?
Our F&E's are both super busy, the one at Aliante parkway/Centennial parkway, and Ann/Decatur. Their newer one that just opened 6 months ago at Commerce/Centennial parkway isn't very busy. I bet that one go's.

If F&E totally closed all locations, and with the lack of work here, home prices going down the tubes, we will go back to Utah. But for the time being, we will stay put. Waiting for home prices to ever creep back upward to get a fair price.

I do not want to stay here forever. I used to, but those were different times with a regular flow of income. Since that came to an end, I just don't know what the future holds right now. I definitely need to buy a crystal ball.

I do not think Commerce and Centennial will go, they recently put back the registers they pulled out. There are many great deals to be had at F&E.

Fresh n easy isnt cheap. I do though like some of the items & their ground beef is fresh & $1.99 lb. They did recently have a few of my fav items prices increased so i go elsewhere. Overall i rate fresh n easy a 4/10 with 10 being best.

Crazy. I am living currently in a small town in Central California, 60% welfare. 80% hispanic, and there is a sign stating that a Fresh and Easy is going to be built here! Are they kidding? The nearest larger community's population base won't even support a Trader Joes, and it is 8 miles away! I didn't know F&E had great tamales!!! They'd better because the locals are fabulous cooks and sell to the community all the time.

For what we buy, it's the cheapest. We always get the half priced items, plus the produce prices are much better than regular supermarkets. We do not buy meats, or milk, so don't care about the price of it.
Their prices fluctuate and they are always a few cents below the nearby supermarket which is Smiths. Walmart does the same thing, trying to be less, but their produce is always expensive. Not so at Fresh and Easy. Plus the coupon you can print out from their website is helpful, and the store coupon they give you in the weekly insert in your mail. Everytime there is a grand opening of another, you get coupons in the mail that are better than the ones in the inserts.
