I haven't done it for awhile, because it gives me such a big scare, usually, to know what crimes have been committed within a mile of my house, for the requested time spans. And with this site you can go all over the Valley to view what crimes are being committed in any area of town, by specifying time spans.

One of my neighbors today was telling me about some burglaries in our neighborhood, so I got on this site tonite and wish I hadn't. That route where I walk to the bus on Fri./Sat. nites, along DI to Eastern, was full of different symbols. Yikes! 2 burglaries within 2 blocks of my house! And even that heavily gated townhouse complex up the street, I was surprised to see a couple burglaries there!

How about you? When is the last time you got on CrimeView? Or do you prefer to not to know, as ignorance is bliss?

I have the updates emailed to me daily...I have pretty much stopped glancing though because 80% of the crime over here seems to revolve around one apartment complex. There really isn't much crime at all in the single homes in
my neighborhood.

Never. Why borrow trouble? What good does it do except make you worry?

I'm on AlertID, and get the emails. In the past year, there have been 2 alerts within my neighborhood, one noise, one burglary 2 streets over. I ignore the emails now because they are usually just alerts of crimes in other parts of the city, or people the police are looking for, etc. My area is pretty "boring" when it comes to crime.

I get daily emails from Alert ID and also check the Crimeview map often. I wish I never knew about them though. They make me very scared to see how much crime is happening. But, I also know that there is A LOT of crime that never makes it to those maps. Violent crimes do not show up. I have known of murders and shootings and none of them ever showed up. My job goes on lockdown often because of so many shootings in the area. NONE of them have ever shown up on the crime map.

That's one of the advantages of joining Next Door. Someone in our community sorts thru the Alert ID info then posts pertinent info on NextDoor.

I don't believe I have ever checked. Like other's I use Alert ID and Nextdoor to keep track of crime in my area which (although maybe not in the victims eyes) is generally petty stuff and vandalism type stuff in my area.

That's basically how I feel about it. Unless you plan to actually take some sort of action as a result of what you see on there, it's pointless.
