I will be moving to the Las Vegas area within the next 6 months. I currently live in a not so good area of Baltimore City, Maryland. My significant other and myself have been trying to find a good area to live in out there. So far we've been told all kinds of things. We're not to sure what to believe at this time since we've never been out there before. I hope to be flying out there in the next month or two to stay at my friends place up in Cold Creek for a week or so to check it all out.

I was wondering if anyone who lives out there, could fill us in on the good, okay, and the bad/must stay away from area's.

I looked up my question on here, but it seems like it went back to 2007 or so. Was wondering what it's like out there today.

Cold Creek? That's way far out from the city. Like an hour. Pretty cool place to check out for a day, but you'll be doing some some serious driving back and forth.

do a thread search... there is a myriad of good information already discussed.

first thing to do, is to ask yourself what level of investment you are going to feel comfortable with and look at what that level of investment will get you out here(either renting or purchasing). after that you can search areas ad nauseum because there is quite a bit of inventory to weed through

If your concern is whether those posts from 2007 would be any different now, the answer is no. Las Vegas hasn't changed much in the last four years as far as the best areas. If you are coming in July/August, Cold Creek will be a little cooler than town, but it's about 45 miles from the center of town. Best thing is to be here and look around. The good areas and the not so good areas are obvious. Doubt we have any area as bad as a Baltimore bad area though.

Well it depends on what kind of life you want to live...

A lot of people say that green valley / seven hills / summerlin are awesome areas and they are... they are really nice quiet beautiful areas that do have lots of shopping close by. Nice neighborhoods, more family orientated areas. but there is not a lot in the way of action. (Also depending on what you call action)

I listened to everyone and ended up buying in one of those areas. it's nice and don’t get me wrong it's nice to be a little away from it all (it's like a 15 - 20 min drive depending on traffic) but i love the strip area and all the craziness that goes with it.

So if you have children or not makes a big difference, and if you like to go clubbing or not makes a difference. I mean Vegas offers every type of living, country, suburb, crazy party town... the first thing you should decide on the type of living you want to have and then look into the areas that fit your style...

Source: bought in a home life neighborhood when i should have bought in a party neighborhood.
