Like I said, Orbitz is NOT priceline and since no one tried we won't know. We need to stop talking apples and oranges. I suggested a price point, I have no idea if that would work or not. But neither do you. Fact.

Airics, I did say TRY bidding on that. And since no one has tried we won't know, will we? Yes, I am reading all the news you are, maybe much more than you do, and I've seen stranger things happen. Howard Johnson's on the strip was listing $79 for NYE night as of yesterday by that same press you are referring to, not that bad if you ask me.

Anyway, Happy New Year!
Uhm, dude, someone sold you a counterfeit "Strip" cause on the actual Strip, there is no Howard Johnsons.

Well, I think I know the strip as well as anyone on this board. And probably much better. Just saying...

I was simply pointing out that news media reported Howard Johnson's on the strip as well as the price I posted above. You know, same media Airics quoted for prices and such. Which was not even original point of discussion. Since no one bid on Priceline, as suggested, and since we have no idea of actual prices actually BILLED for rooms on the strip, the argument is moot.

I understand marketing and hype as much as the next guy. News media, in these dire times, is not "proof" to me nor anyone else of what really happens in Vegas. I was on the strip just a week ago, It was DEAD, literally, when compared to years past. There is now way in hell anyone can convince me that just a few days later the entire world is converging on Vegas. Marketing/hype is one way to sell fewer rooms while charging way more money for them to somehow brake even. When Bellagio says they used to charge $800 per room on NYE in years past and they are charging $2000 per this year I know this is a con job. You know, a sucker is born every minute and all that jazz...

Hate to tell you, but yes, for this weekend the hotel prices skyrocketed. I know because I have a friend who booked rooms for family and the price he paid for tonight was higher than the normal price. Good Lord, I am staying at a weekly hotel off the Strip (just moved here. Still getting my bearings) and people who checked in for this week said the price here for a week is about 1/4 to 1/10 what they were quoted for ONE night at hotels on the Strip. And I can see the Strip from my parking lot and just watched the most AMAZING firework show!! (twirling in my Las Vegas local outfit!)

Christmas weekend revenue numbers showed an increase from years past with an average occupancy rate of 49% in Clark County. So it was not as DEAD as you claim. It will be interesting to see this weekend numbers that will be out on Tuesday flash report. And your argument using Priceline to book holds no water. The cancelations are not going to be available at that large of a discount to the wholesalers when the walk-ins and new rated patron comps will fill them fast.

Funny. You guys are reading news media BS while I was actually on the strip for 5 days, observing. I guess I lied to you since I did see shoppers in those 5 days. 1 was seen in Chanel store and 2 were seen at Tiffany's (Bellagio). Seemingly making purchases. ALL OTHER SHOPS, we were the only ones walking in, be it Bellagio, Caesar's, Pallazzo, Venetian or Winn. Add Crystals for a good measure, there were actually some tourists seen at Crystals, forget about shoppers. Whether in the afternoon or evening hours. Sorry, my bad, we did see one other buyer at Winn Chanel, add one more to the list above. This, when in years past during same time period we'd have to wait to be served or saw at least half a dozen customers milling around in every store on the strip.

Restaurants? Any and all, just walk in and be seated. Aria restaurants were more than empty, main reason we decided to skip since it was difficult to figure out if the food is bad or the economy is THAT BAD. Yes, Puck's pizza place was doing decent business, that's about it.

Music lounges in Bellagio? Walk in and be seated, no exception and were there each and every night. In years past, you'd need some really good luck to be seated. Can't count the times we saw people sit down, look at the price list and walk out, NEVER seen that before in Bellagio nor any other lounge on the strip. And speaking of gambling, we have never seen entire gambling table sections closed, this was eye opening. IN ALL HOTELS.

Strip? Not only way thinner crowds, the kind that only gawks at higher end casinos/hotels, but does brisk business at Walgreens/CVS as well as fast food places (yes, they were all doing good business). You know, not to be judgmental, but trailer park well doers, all walking the strip with a Bud in hand.

Do you really believe this is the crowd that keeps the Strip in the black and renting those supposed $2K per night rooms in Bellagio? I really don't give a hoot what the press says, had more than my fill of USSR "news media" brainwashing propaganda machine for those who never ask questions, which is, sadly, all one gets here in USA for the past 20 odd years now. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck... Funny how all the numbers are "estimates", isn't it, when actual number of rooms booked and sold/billed is so easily gotten these days.

Tao paid Kardashians $600K to show up, if the strip was THAT FULL, why bother when they could just fill up the place anyhow and pocket the $600K for anice tidy profit?

Oh, BTW, I was making reservations for an upcoming trip to Henderson and by mistake clicked a wrong date, or rather, left it in default mode. You guessed it, NYE. $59 rate popped up at a 3.5 star casino hotel. So, we could argue all day and night long, but since no one did (nor could) prove me wrong let's just leave the argument where it is. I did get my answer, via a keyboard mistake, did anyone else who keeps arguing with me in this thread?

A guy walks in on his wife in bed with some stranger.
His wife:
- Who are you going to believe, your loving wife or your lying eyes?

I know what my eyes told me on my recent trip to Vegas.

Henderson is not the Strip.
And I live here ( I have waited so long to say that LOL) So I know a bit more than you do about how busy the Strip can be at this time of year because I had to go to the Strip three times in the past seven days. I dropped my son off to work an evening job on the Strip three nights in a row and there were so many people walking the streets, and casinos etc that it took me a LONG time to get in and of there. And you talk about trailer dwellers being who is down there? Wrong. Trailer dwellers cannot afford a bottle of water on the Strip. Your posts sound so judgmental about the way people dress, live etc.
It is no wonder people who have not lived here, but have visited, claim Las Vegas is filled with unfriendly, snobbery. It is the visitors who have that attitude apparently, because I have encountered many friendly residents who have been quite helpful... oh, and they never frequent the Strip. Too crowded for them.

You realize you can find winning bids on the Internet don't you? Nothing even close to 45. You got called out and flopped! Guess those 300k strip revelers were imaginary huh? You're now a member of Dyn's favorite club. Matter of fact, I think you're on top of the list.

We had so much high end play tonight with patrons from Southern CAL that I thought I lost track of the days of week and thought it was Sunday night from all the action. It must be all those $49 priceline bidders filling the seats at the tables.
