Just got back to Cape Cod from our 3 week Vegas trip. First time in house since we closed November 1. Drove out (and back) in 3 days (2850 miles each way). No furniture, sleep on floor 'til Craig's List came through with a mattress. Then we bought couch to sit on. Changed locks on doors.
Had leaky toilet, so replaced innards in all four bathrooms. 3 trees in back fell down-had them removed.
Only found 3 scorpions. Got Non-Resident ID at DMV so we could get local discounts. DMV was very pleasant, not like back east. Met our neighbors, was invited for coffee. It actually rained one night and the mountain tops were covered in snow – BEAUTIFUL!

All-in all very nice trip. Can't wait 'til it's permanent. What a wonderful place to live...

Yikes! You list a bunch of unpleasant experiences, then say it was a great trip. LOL! Did you really buy a used mattress off Craigslist? Scary. Only 3 scorpions? Even scarier.

Glad you had fun and met your neighbors though. Those beginning steps in making a home yours are always the best.

Well first of all, thanks for scaring me with your photo on your profile.
And if you have scorpions, you must be closer to or in Summerlin.
Are you sure you can trust a mattress from Craigslist?

My house is in area code 89149 NW.
The mattress looked new and we put it in a zippered cover.

Since the house was vacant for over 4 months I was glad it was not broken into and trashed. I also purchased some ADT signs and placed them on the property.
I am very glad Las Vegans are so friendly. Went to Buffalo Wings restaurant when our (POOR) Boston Bruins were playing. Asked barkeep to put on game, he said no problem. But music was playing - asked him to put on play-by-play on speakers and he obliged. Had the bar and whole restaurant cheering for the Bruins. It was great!! Went back for each game until we left.

I've seen vinegaroons around. They look like scorpions, but aren't dangerous

I have lived in the Las Vegas valley for 13 years now and have never seen any scorpions, vinegaroons or earwigs for that matter. Used to see them all plus many more in Southern California.

I've lived here 48 years and have only seen four or five scorpions and a couple of harmless vinegaroons ...most of those were in the 60s, one scorp in 91 and one in 2001.

I like your attitude. Reminds me of when I bought my vacation home in Las Vegas last year. The issues that come up are just part of the adventure. I'm enjoying the heck out of Las Vegas and hope you will too.

You have an awesome attitude, for sure! Coming from Cape Cod? I love Las Vegas, but Cape Cod is high on my bucket list. Love the water, it is one of the few things I will miss upon moving to LV.

Scorpions? Yuck. Don't ever want to see one.

Mattress on CL? We sold 3 of them on CL (2 were the neighbors as they were upgrading theirs) and they go like wildfire. I actually felt bad picking one person as they all had stories, kids sleeping on the floor and such. All of them were very nice, clean pillowtop Queen mattresses. We sold them for 50 bucks each. Plastic covers are a good thing, for at least a year.
