Hello everyone

My name is Christian and currently I live in New York City and now you are probably asking yourself, why someone from NYC would make his first post in the Las Vegas section of the forum. Well I am planning to permanently move to Las Vegas in May/June, got a good opportunity to stay with a friend of mine until I get settled that is also moving to Vegas from NYC.

Christian

I currently live in NYC. Can't quite bring myself to pull the trigger on moving to LV yet, but have been strongly considering it for a while.

Hi Christian. No we're not asking the question "why someone from NYC would make his first post in the Las Vegas section of the forum."

We got lots of New Yawkers here in Sin City, and lots of folks from there and all over the world who moved to Vegas and made their first post in this forum just like you.

Before I joined this forum I did a lot of lurking. And it was evident that the job market isn't the greatest in Las Vegas. But New York City isn't "easy" also, I have a masters degree and it took me a year to get my current job (which I hate).

The only reason why I am 99% sure that I am moving to Las Vegas is because my best friends parents live out there and they offered me a good opportunity. So when I get there, I already have a home and people that will look after me. I know it will be tough at first, settling and finding employment, but I am 27 without a wife/kids or any debt. Im thinking if I wont do this, then I will always regret it because I am not happy in New York City.

What kind of work do you do?

You can start seeking employment via online websites and use your friend's parents Vegas home address as your own. Helps when you have local contact info when applying for Las Vegas jobs.

I live in NJ, but own a house in Las Vegas. I wish I could make the permanent move, but I still need my job here.

I certainly don't blame anyone for wanting to leave the northeast (even though it's 60 degrees today).

Currently I am a administrative assistant at a hospital in Queens, New York. But I have a BA in Sociology and Masters in Social Work, those are very broad degress so I can apply for many sort of positions. Got 2 years experience as a social worker in a nursing home and 2 years in hospital setting. So hopefully that will help me out when job hunting in Las Vegas

Of course I am not picky with work, I will start anything just to get some sort of income and work from that.

I completely understand and if i had a decent job that paid OK then I would try my best to stay in New York City. But fact of the matter is that my current salary isn't enough to pay for rent for a 1 bed room in a decent area. Everything about NYC is very expensive, a person really needs atleast 100k a year to live some what comfortable and i hate the cold lol

Well, here's a start. Get job hunting via the internet, fill out online applications. See if that wonderful education can be put to good use to help others! Don't skip ads for North Las Vegas and the City of Henderson...all are connected geograhically to Las Vegas, literally, you can drive up one street and you're in Las Vegas and drive two streets over from that and you're in Henderson or North Las Vegas.

Best of luck to you!

Thank You, I will give it a shot. Also is it better to fill out applications electronically or just go in person to a HR office?
