Costco.

The local mattress stores are overpriced -- even with their "50% off clearance sales."

Since you can't comparison shop by model name, print out the tables at us-mattress.com so you can determine equivalent models within a given mfgrs line. Basically, to find equivalent mattresses, they have to have the same comfort rating, the same spring/coil count, and the exact same layers in their construction.

Example: Simmons Beautyrest Comparison Chart

You can then use the online retailer price plus shipping (if there is any charge) as your price target. I think a 15% premium over the online price is a fair price to pay for the ability to try out the mattress in the store, and get it delivered the same or next day.

That only work if you're willing to sleep on a Serta. Their in-store selection is extremely limited, so you'd have to go to a mattress store to try them out, and then try to find the matching model on costco.com. I'm pretty sure the one model they carry in the stores is way too soft and actually poorly rated by people who bought them. Since the other online retailers have a larger selection, and make it easier to compare/match via their tables, I don't see why you'd restrict yourself to Costco.

We bought a king size mattress at this store. The prices were fair and same day delivery.

ergocomfort.net. Their local retail shop is in the World Market Center on the 1st floor & is open to the public. Most comfortable mattresses I've ever been on.

Not exactly. We bought a latex foam mattress at one of Costco's "roadshow events." It cost one quarter what the mattress stores charge.

Life is just to short to sleep on a cheap mattress.
