Come out and visit and see for yourself. Nevada is a lot different from the East Coast. Outside of Vegas there isn't much for miles and most of the land is owned by the Feds so it can't be developed.

My wife's 90 mile commute used to take 2 to 3 hours each way... Made for a loooong day......

That was using 3 or 4 different freeways with all their idiosyncrecies.....

Wow. That's a commute. When my dad owned a restaurant in Encinitas one of our regular Happy Hour customers told me she commuted from Rosarito Beach, Mexico to Carlsbad everyday! She owned a hair salon. Just the border crossing everyday would be awful but she seemed to be OK with it since her beach house in Rosarito was all paid for (must be nice). Cheers.

You have to drive where ever you go in Las Vegas. You can live in the outskirts like me; but be prepared to drive long distances.

Do you remember her name? I used to know someone who did that. She passed away a couple of years ago though.

I don't consider anywhere in Las Vegas as being long distance....

I used to commute from Albuquerque to Santa Fe. It was 59 miles from my house to my office. Took me about 50 minutes and that was taking it easy. Never any traffic. I'd get on I-25 and set my cruise control between 75 and 80 and chat with the station owner on the phone; same high school graduate that owns Ch-3. When I worked at JobConnect on Maryland Pkwy, it would take almost as long to commute 13 miles here in town during "rush" hour. Did I say "almost"? Sometimes going to and from work when you work 8 to 5 it takes longer trhan that even on surface streets. Taking the freeway from 7 to 8am or 5 to 6pm is crazy. And for you easterners used to working 8 hour days from 9 to 5 and getting paid during lunch hour: get over it. Here you work 8 to 5 and lunch hour isn't included. You get 8 hours pay and it takes up 9 hours of your day.

My casino gig isn't like that. I get a paid lunch hour. And free lunch in the EDR. And it's an eight-hour shift. I would prefer to just work seven hours with no break. But the union isn't down with that.

But my commute is anywhere from 30-60 minutes each way, depending on traffic. And it's only 12 miles from my front door to work. There is simply no easy way to get from Sunrise to the Strip. By the time I reach a highway, I'm already half-way there. It makes no sense to travel on anything other than the surface roads.

I commute from North Las Vegas (Aliante) to Summerlin for work. 20 minutes average, 30 minutes tops. I'm always going the opposite direction of rush hour though.

Not a big deal for me; when I lived in Salt Lake my commute took 30-45 minutes each way and several of my peers were driving twice that.
