I am staying at the Flamingo on the strip New Years Eve and wanted to know when should I get to hotel. What time do they shut down the strip to traffic. Is it correct that the casinos do not let people in and out between certain times. Can you carry drinks around. Are bottles allowed? Are backpacks allowed? When will the strip open again for traffic. Can you walk up and down the strip or will it be too crowded? Thanks

Th strip is a zoo on NYE. Locals use the back entrances to the casinos after traffic is shut down on the strip. I can't remember exactly what time they close it down, (maybe 8 PM) but it reopens around three AM.

Absolutely no glass bottles, but people carry plenty of drinks in festive plastic cups, while wearing silly hats and glasses. It's a street party of sorts, so "walking" is a bit of a misnomer. It's more like nudging. I wouldn't bring a backpack, you will find it too cumbersome.

Happy New Year!

So where is a decent place, off strip, to watch and photograph? I have 2 small kids I don't need them being trampled or otherwise hurt.I do want to be close enough to hear and maybe even feel the explosions.

Taken from Vegas.com

America's Party: Las Vegas New Year 2014
Date: Tuesday, Dec. 31, midnight
Price: Free
Where: Las Vegas Strip

Enjoy the spectacular fireworks show fired from seven rooftop locations along the Las Vegas Strip. The firing locations (from the south, heading north) include MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island (TI), The Venetian and the Stratosphere. The fireworks choreography will be set to a soundtrack using Pitbull and Christina Aguilera's "Feel This Moment" as the theme of this year's colorful explosions. The performance will start at 11:59:50 p.m. with 10 seconds of dramatic pyrotechnics rising up as the official countdown from the Stratosphere rooftop firing location. Exactly at the stroke of midnight, the sequences will kick in from the other hotels.

A great place to view the fireworks all over the valley and at the varied casinos is high on Hollywood Blvd on the east side. You can reach it via Lake Mead, Bonanza, Charleston, Sahara, or Vegas Valley.

There are several public parks on the west side with fireworks but all are extremely crowded.

My family and I are going to stay home and watch on TV.

If you have children, AVOID THE STRIP AND DOWNTOWN AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

Decatur off the 215 Beltway. There are vacant lots that show the Strip.

I see that there is no Party on the Bridge this year due to the construction at NYNY. Will the overpass be open between NYNY and the MGM after midnight?

it's weird... when i first started visiting here and even during the first couple years i lived here, i wanted to do New Years on the strip....never had the opportunity... 2 years ago, i was training for my current job at Mandalay and worked New Years Eve. After seeing the crowds rumble out of the hotel for the 10 minutes of fireworks and all the drunks... i have no, zero, none, nada intention of being on the strip on New Years Eve....plus i can see the fireworks from one of the bedrooms in my house... granted the strip is tiny... and i mean tiny...
