Greetings

I am looking for advice on landing a job in Las Vegas by the early spring. I am a life long Chicagoan who has spent the last 21 years as a Radio Personality, DJ, Promotions Assistant, Marketer,Programmer and Public Speaker. My resume includes 10 years ranked #1, 4 major endorsements including Apple, Bally's, Motorola, and Coca Cola, 2006 guest appearance on Oprah (Debt Diet) and NBC Dateline, countless community service awards, and a long list of interviews including two Presidents. Here is the issue..I was hired onto radio right out of High School so all my training and skills I learned on the job therefore no collage degree. Syndication has killed 75% of local talent so many of us were let go not due to our performance but to save money in a dying industry. I am looking for a fresh start and I believe my skills would bring wining results to any Casino, Promotions/Marketing firm, Night Club, Sports, or Public Relations firm if given the chance. My resume has baffled headhunters and temp agency's and as exciting as my background looks they have no clue what to do with me. I am a winner and I am seeking advice on who I might want to reach out to where my skills can make a positive impact. I am looking to relocate asap and I am very open to starting on a entry level. I would just like a chance to work.

Any Suggestions...

Victor

Even with the impressive résumé, you will need juice...lots of it.

Instead of posting here, start sending your resumes on all the major resorts on and off the Strip including the local radio stations. Caesars is planning on opening the LinQ later this year, check the list of tenants on their website. You could send your resume or get in touch with any of the entertainment venues opening at the LinQ.

Can you do television news? If so do you have an escape tape? News departments in Las Vegas are like revolving doors for reporters to get experience and move on. But many, especially the main anchors, stick around for years.

Radio stations here are the same as everywhere. Most media in this country is owned by three major corporations, and especially in radio, everything is automated.

If you aren't on Facebook, you need to be. Here's a local broadcasting (mostly radio) site to look at for local color. http://www.facebook.com/buzz.floyd.3...2270387152003/

Voice overs is big business too. You could make a living from your spare bedroom with very little equipment. Here's a site. Dave Corvo is KLAS-TV news anchor Dave Courvoisier on local TV. He has a VO business too. http://www.facebook.com/buzz.floyd.3...vers.by.CourVO

The best way for you to get a job here would be to be here and just make the rounds until somebody hires you. Meantime you could do P/T or freelance work probably. But there is a lot of competition here. It is, after all, the entertainment capital of the world.

You don't need a degree to do broadcasting. PR firms might want one, or at least see that you have been successful at it.

Thank you Buzz123. I never did any tv work just radio but again I do not have to work in radio. I prefer a promotions company or marketing work. I thought I would post here because I have already sent off my resume to a number of places but who knows where it really goes after you press SEND. I saw first hand at my last radio job they use data from job applicants to build there database and are just filing information. I will reach out to Dave Courvoiser this week and again thank you.
