Hi,

I am posting this for my friend who is located in Las Vegas since she does not have access to the Internet and doesn't really know how to use it since she is elderly.

My friend believes that her Shetland Sheepdog has a hematoma on or near his ear. She called her vet about it today and was advised that the surgery cost would be $400-600 if it is in fact a hematoma. The vet office was not willing to work with her on a payment plan. She is elderly, on a fixed income, and her family does not have the ability to loan her any money.

Does anyone know of a vet in the Las Vegas area that is willing to work with low income owners on surgical procedures? She is very concerned that the dog may be in pain and wants to get it taken care of as quickly as possible. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I do not know of any Vets specifically who work as you asked but I do know the Vet I use, per someone's previous recommendation on here, is wonderfully economical. The name of the facility is Camino El Norte animal hospital and I'm sure you can find it on the internet. It is in a nice safe neighborhood suitable for an elderly woman. An example of their charges, they do my two dogs yearly shots that include all that are needed for a total of $40., i.e., distemper, rabies, parvo. That is the price for both dogs.

I don't know of any vets who will do payment plans with new clients. Her best bet is to contact her existing vet who she already has a relationship with (sounds like that has already been done).

My wife is a vet and they get many of these requests every day. They rarely end up getting paid on payment plans, which is why they aren't offered. In rare circumstances they will do them for an existing client with a history of treatment, payment, etc.

Any vet who was willing to do what you're suggesting, would be overrun with this type of work if the word got out.

Can she get Care Credit? Many vet offices offer that option.

My vets give me a senior discount, and I think, but am not completely sure, that they would allow someone like that to make payments. Anyway, call and ask. South Shores Animal Hospital on W. Lake Mead near Rampart. 255-8050

Thank you for all of the suggestions! I am going to call these vets for her and see if they are willing to work with her since she is on Social Security. I will also suggest the cortisone pills and check out the prices on these

it's not a guarantee that the pills will work in every case, but it worked for my newman. I think it was about 30-40 bucks, maybe less.

Now shes back to her old self... passing judgement on me. "you are inferior to me human!"

The best place to go is Tropicana Animal Hospital on Eastern and Tropicana. Ask for Dr. Nay.

This place is less expensive. Don't go to VCA.
