There used to be tons of threads pertaining to what this city is lacking, needs more of, can do without, what industry should be brought here, ways to raise taxes...etc. Now there is a contest for that.

What's your economic vision for Las Vegas? Grant offers $800K no-strings-attached prize - Las Vegas Sun News

Quote:
Las Vegas accepted a $1 million federal grant Wednesday to conduct a
competition to develop long-term economic plans for the city. But the ultimate
winner of this no-strings-attached award can spend the money any way it wants,
even on a sports car or trip to the Bahamas.

City officials, of course, hope the eventual winner of the Strong Cities,
Strong Communities grant will use the money in a more constructive way that
enhances Las Vegas, but they’ll have no way to ensure that.

This is going to be a tough one. I've been there just once as a stop over on a business trip. From what I remember nothing in the way that will win. I'd personally want to see the out skirts of town developed in an agricultural way to make fresher better quality food more readily available. Most likely hydroponic green house grown. The sunshine is there for year round production.

Make the downtown area more residential and less industrial. Maybe even integrate the side walks(make them bigger) and bike lanes to make the area more like a pedestrian friendly university style campus. Then add two grocery stores to the north before Bonanza and to the west near Charleston and Main street area. Next would be to bulldoze the majority of the area behind the Stratosphere(Naked City). Then add a very much needed(edit because this idea is so awesome that I can't share, someone will steal it).

Everyone and their family will want to experience what's going on behind the Stratosphere.

$800K
:-)

This is a no-brainer: solar-powered, elevated tram from the airport, down LV Blvd. all the way to downtown.

Yeh. Better mass transportation. Make sure it serves the suburbs too. Sitting in 100F for 30 minutes for the bus is not cool.

Hello... Economic vision.

While we may need it at some point, Mass transit isn't much of a vision.

A Valley wide sunshade made of solar panels. Put it in place in every May, take it down early October. Build it and maybe I'd move back.

Default Idea

I would like to see a center with all kinds of equipment and people capable of assisting aspiring inventors bringing their ideas to life. This "center" would provide this person with the means to fabricate prototypes, get patents, provide legal, marketing connections etc. in exchange the "center" would get a percentage of future sales. Obviously the ideas would have to be vetted so you don't waste resources.
