Everytime I go to Palm Springs and ride the Aerial Tramway up the mountain nearby, I really wonder why we don't have one here to take tourists as well as locals (and those who are physically unable to climb mountains) up to the top of Mount Charleston, or Sunrise Mountain or Black Mountain to the south. I have also done a great deal of travel to South America where I have ridden chair lifts to the top of nearby hills/mountains for a great overview of the city. I would certainly think whatever entity invested the money in something like this, it would pay off handsomely over time.

If they are harder to get to, they stay just a little cleaner for longer. Easy to get to, trash everywhere. Just my opinion though.

CJSKI21 I agree with you....plus.....the monorail is proof positive that just because you build it, doesnt mean they will ride it.

Sad, but true. I agree with dyn and cj. Make people work for it...that way they'll appreciate it.

Actually the County of Clark Rec Dept proposed a funicular for Lone Mountain. The proposers were virtually lynched by the surrounding neighbors. An outdoor theatre for Lone Mountain met a similar fate.

Locals seem to oppose anything that will attract people from outside the local area.

Default I've climbed all three and....

everytime I get to the top I feel everyone should be entitled to these magnificant views: elderly seniors, the handicapped, tourists. It saddens me that a good part of the population will never be able to climb up to Mt. Charleston and see the magnificant Sierra mountains 200+ miles away, or what you can see in all directions. There should be no reason for not putting in a funicular at Sunrise Mountain. Great views in both directions.
