This is our first Nevada summer in our 2700 sq.ft., two story, home. Our bill last month was $520 in part due to a broken pool timer which left the pump running 24/7. I adjusted thermostat up to 82/83 for the lowest setting and added some fans. Next month we are looking at a $350 bill according to nvenergy.com which I check almost daily. My goal is to stay under 100 kWh per day.

I don't know how long you plan on staying at your house but I will suggest you start planting trees and shrubs as close to your house without compromising its foundation(roots) and exterior. I only have a condo unit but it is surrounded by mature trees and shrubs. It will definitely help with your electricity bill. It may take a while for them to mature but it is all worth it. My Summer electricity bill is low and my Winter electricity bill is even lower than my Summer bill. Temperature setting is the same, I just switch from cold to heat and vice versa.

Here is a photo of my side yard, noticed how my condo is surrounded by mature landscaping like trees and shrubs, there is another tree behind that you cannot see on this photo. Palo Verde, Mesquite and Chaste trees are on this side of my condo. Palo Verde and the Mesquite is higher than the roof giving good coverage.

$279 for 1475 sq ft last month. One of us works from home so the ac is running constantly. We don't own the home though, so I am not sure what we can really do. I'd love to have a $150 bill too!
