Hi, my wife and I are looking to relocate from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the air quality and want to know how bad it really is in Vegas. A big reason we are leaving LA is due to the smog, along with over population and price of living, not too mention we're also from the desert (AZ) and miss it and the open space. I tried comparing the two by reading forums on LA smog as well, but it trended on Las Vegas is bad and LA is getting oh so better. I hear LA has gotten better since the 80's, but that still doesn't mean it's not horrible now, which it really is. So how does Las Vegas add up to that? The only days it's not disgusting here is when it rains, is Vegas isolated to certain times a year? Every time we've been I don't recall a problem, but maybe I'm used to it in LA that I didn't notice? Any good advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Nowhere near as bad as L.A. The only thing that seems to make the air hazy is dust when the wind blows and it can definitely get very windy here.

Air quality in Summerlin is better because of the elevation and the wind generally blows from the mountains which is good quality.

It's not bad and is certainly better than Los Angeles.

Like logline said, the majority of our bad air is dust, especially when the winds kick up like right now. Our air quality as for smog is generally not bad. Occasionally it gets into the moderate categories, usually on hot still summer days. Compared to when I lived in Riverside, the air out here is great, you just have to dust everything off in your house often. Certain times of the year the pollens can get up there like sage and they will coat your vehicles & patio furniture with a yellowish dust.

Here's a link to Las Vegas current air quality.

I don't know about the pollution, but something here gives my allergies fits all year round. I can drive South on 95 into AZ and be fine until I drop back into the valley.

I wrongfully assume that the desert would be better for allergies.

Air quality around the rim of the valley. Not just Summerlin. Las Vegas is shaped like a lopsided bowl. The best areas are near the rim. The air is cleaner. It is quieter. And if you live directly abutting a mountain, there are only neighbors on three sides.

My wife suffers from the same affliction. Her allergy test returned zero positives. It may just be the dust and the very dry air... She is fairly certain she is at least allergic to olive trees

I've been here for about 3 years now and I was fine the 1st year, then got constantly sick for the 2nd year... The past year has been good. I suppose my immune system took a beating and has recovered.

It can't be the dust/dry... I've lived in Denver CO, El Paso TX and Yuma AZ with minimal or no problems. I can drive to White Hills AZ and be just fine...when I drop back into the valley though....stuffed up.
