You're looking at rent anywhere from 500-1000/month depending on how nice an apartment you want.

Your other fixed costs such as utilities, gas and groceries will be around 500-700 a month.

Adidam,

Welcome, and congratulations on your new job.

You will need to plan on purchasing an automobile for transportation. Plan on a $15,000.00 to 20,000.00 budget - this will allow you to purchase a good quality, reliable, mechanically sound 2 or 3 year old vehicle. Many people finance their purchase, but as you will be new to the USA, you might have a bit of difficulty with that. You would probably need to provide proof of employment & wage, etc. You must, by law, also purchase automobile insurance for this vehicle in order to register it with the State of Nevada. Others may provide guidance on the price of insurance, but plan on $1,000 per year. Gasoline currently costs about $3.40 to $3.75 per gallon but fluctuates daily/weekly.

For a smart cellular telephone, plan on $200 with a 2 year contract that will run $50.00 to $70.00 per month. This includes unlimited US calling, and a set amount of data. In the USA, it is common for people to have both a POTS telephone land line and also a cellular telephone, but more and more people are foregoing the land line and just using a cellular telephone.

You will likely live in an apartment complex. Your internet connection & television will likely be through Cox Home Page Location Interceptor | Cox Communications -- and there are separate charges for these (that is, it is not common for these to be bundled into your monthly apartment rental.) Plan on $150/month for both internet & television.

Count on 1000 based on where the employment is. Count on 150-200 a month for car insurance since he doesn't have a USA driving record.

From what I've read, India has a very low cost of living. It will be much much more here.

If you buy a car your location isn't that big of an issue. LV is like a city just dumped in a valley so it's just basically knowing how far you can go North, South, East or West. As your new to Vegas it might be a good idea to get a two bedroom because people will want to visit you once they hear you live in Vegas.

It's good to get information ahead of time, but your company should or will be providing advice to you. You certainly won't be alone as an Indian living in Las Vegas and will feel at home in no time. Living here should be easier for you. Don't worry, you will do fine.
