Looking for a place that takes used clothes but will actually give it to people in need of them.

Shade tree shelter. They always need donations as they take in battered women and their kids and pets.

I will check them out, as we have a few hundred new, unopened toys we want to donate as well. Thanks PinkString!

I tend to second the Shade Tree...At least there you will know everything you donate gets into the hands of those that need it most....excellent time of year to donate...make a little one smile...great job...!

Thanks Shade Tree and Irish4evr. I wanted to try some place NOT Goodwill or whatever commercialized place there is.

The USMC is collecting toys for its Toys for Tots program. I believe that they will arrange a pickup.

I second Safe Nest. They are very specific about the things they need (bathrobes, toiletries, clothing, toys) so I don't the re-sell their donations to thrift stores. They serve a very vulnerable population. A friend of mine used to teach CPR over there. They were very careful about screening volunteers. The men these women are fleeing can be very dangerous.
