10 things that happen when you move to Las Vegas | Las Vegas Review-Journal

Especially #10 (although the dude on Fremont with the neckbeard in the wedding dress does get an occasional double-take)

Native Nevadan here (currently in exile)

Not sure who wrote this list but they must be joking.

How about:
  1. Having potential employers asking you "How long have you been in Las Vegas?" during your interview - Multiple times
  2. Getting a blow out on I-15 or US-95 due to all of the road debris that hasn't been cleaned up - Multiple times
  3. Being asked for drugs down on Fremont Street even when you are with children - Multiple times
  4. Going to the library downtown and seeing some of the scariest homeless people who you have ever seen staring at you.
  5. Seeing Metro cuffing somebody (usually drunk) on The Strip - Multiple times
  6. Hearing about hard it is to find a job - Daily, throughout the city.
  7. Opening your power bill in the summer and almost fainting
  8. Getting used to spending at LEAST an hour each time you go to the DMV
  9. Getting used to making 33-50% less than you were wherever you relocated from
  10. Realizing that you made a mistake relocating there the minute that you realize where you are - Within one month or less.

#11. You find out the buffet isn't going anywhere so you don't have to hit one three times a week.

Whew, good thing you got out of here and into "scenic" Indiana!

I guess I'm the only lucky one.. I've never heard #1, haven't had #2 happen, never been asked #3, never been to #4, never seen #5, never heard #6, #7 happened, but that's before I got smart and now enjoy a $100-$120 bill, #8 happened, but it was ONLY an hour (try 4-5 in my last state), #9 doesn't apply since I make the same wherever I live, and #10 is laughable.

But enjoy your snow

How about:
  1. having potential employers asking you "how long have you been in las vegas?" during your interview - multiple times -so? I hire for my company and double check everything
  2. getting a blow out on i-15 or us-95 due to all of the road debris that hasn't been cleaned up - multiple timesnever had an issue or even seen debris on the highway like you are talking
  3. being asked for drugs down on fremont street even when you are with children - multiple timesnever happened
  4. going to the library downtown and seeing some of the scariest homeless people who you have ever seen staring at you.never happened… and i like going to the library
  5. seeing metro cuffing somebody (usually drunk) on the strip - multiple times darn tourists especially from indiana...
  6. hearing about hard it is to find a job - daily, throughout the city.yes, some truth to this… don't expect a top level job as soon as you get here
  7. opening your power bill in the summer and almost faintingsame as living in indiana and fainting at the sight of the heating bill… but july $300 for my size house isn't bad
  8. getting used to spending at least an hour each time you go to the dmv.never used to be until obozo allowed the illegals to get licenses.. But i get my number, check time, run errands, and go back
  9. getting used to making 33-50% less than you were wherever you relocated from...really? Burger king pays $11.15 an hour at the airport. You must make a lot because the cost of living is so much higher where you live
  10. realizing that you made a mistake relocating there the minute that you realize where you are - within one month or less.been here 5 years….the only mistake i made is not moving here sooner...

You must not get out much if you have never seen Metro cuff a drunk. A Saturday night downtown or on the Strip and you will see it multiple times. Number 2 is the only one I am kind of scratching my head on. The rest are mostly true, although certainly depends on what kind of job one is interviewing for. The drugs one is annoying and happens in the tourist zone too much. Heck I got offered drugs when I was 13 and in the arcade at the Riviera.

And I quite enjoy the snow, thank you very much

2. Realizing those scary homeless people were probably wealthy when they first came to Las Vegas.

What do YOU look like that makes people think you have drugs?

In 11 years I never had a serious issue with road debris in NV.
Traveling down I65 in INDIANA hit a pothole going 60 mph. DESTROYED two wheels on my SAAB convertible at 400 bucks per wheel a flat tire would have been much more desirable.

Sorry but I grew up on the South Side of Chicago and Indiana is just gloomy and depressing for about 5 months of the year. As is just about all of of Chcagoland minus Lincoln Park and the lake front.

You could NOT pay me...seriously to return to the Midwest

I gave up a country club lifestyle (with my family) to get out of that area and I NEVER looked back!
Vegas is 1000x more livable than anywhere in Indiana.

Hey, I've been a tourist from Indiana three times and I cannot wait to go back a fourth! Especially since for reasons beyond any human except politicians to grasp Indiana only allows table games in riverboat casinos, only electronic games in the two land based casinos (which of course are the only ones within an hour or my house).

Also, yes, this winter especially fainting at the sight of the heating bill. Almost $400 in January alone granted we were well below zero multiple times.

Looking outside my window at a blue sky in NE Indiana as we speak. Not that warm (yet) but the sky is blue.
And I have lived here in the Midwest for almost 15 years (with two brief stints back in Nevada) and I would say that it is occasionally cold, but other than this winter it has never been "gloomy." Perhaps you are thinking of Seattle or Portland.

Let me know when Nevada gets jobs again (and good paying ones at that) and I might be interested in coming home. Until then, I'll stay in a place where the unemployment rate has never reached 10% or over, thank you very much.
