Normally, anyone coming into Vegas with no applicable experience looking for a job would have a tough time. You're situation may be a bit different. Being multilingual would give you a big advantage. And the fact that you're young, and I'm assuming decent looking (translating that from being in good shape), might give you a big leg up in getting some sort of front of house job at one of the casinos. The military experience might not be bad for a casino security job either.

And the fact that you have some built in cash flow will make things much easier. Do you have any savings to hold you over (in addition to the pension)?

It looks like you should be able to make it here. As long as you avoid the temptation to gamble all your money away.

Just be sure that your citizenship status is 100% correct. (Alles in Ordnung.) For instance, do you hold a US passport and have a valid social security number? You will find it nearly impossible to get a real job without a social security number.

You can apply for casino jobs online. I would do that first. There are a few major casino groups -- MGM, Caesar's Entertainment, Wynn, and Venetian/Palazzo. There are also local casino groups like Station and Coast. But I don't know whether bilingual English/German would be as important to the local casinos.

Each casino group has a jobs website. You can apply for ONE job for each group at a time. Be absolutely sure that you meet the job requirements. If the job application says: "Must have two years casino security experience" do not apply unless you can prove that you have two years casino security experience. Otherwise, you are wasting your time.

Just get ANY job at ANY casino, and then you can move around fairly easily from job to job within the casino until you have the job that you want. That is how it works.

Do you have any issues with drug or alcohol abuse?

If so, as a long-time Nevadan who isn't living there now, I would strongly advise against moving there. The temptation will be too great and you won't be able to avoid it. There also the fact that economy in Las Vegas has been in the toilet for almost seven years now and it's showing only limited improvement.

Some advice: Travel to Las Vegas and stay at an extended stay motel for few a months to get the lay of the land. If you like the area, then relocate. If you don't, then you can leave at any time and you'll only be out of the money spent on your visit.

July and August will be extremely hot. 110+ degrees. In celsius I believe that's around 45C. If you want to avoid the heat, you could try coming in October or November.

I think choosing to live in Vegas for 1-2 years is a great idea. It's a life experience and will give you lots of interesting stories to tell when you go back to Germany.
