I know this may be hard to answer but from observation how many or what percentage of people are long term residents of Las Vegas? Is Las Vegas a high transient town compared to people settling in LV?..

I'm not looking for hard numbers I'm more looking what are the observations of the people.

Las Vegas is often discussed as a high transiency place. Actually it is in the upper levels of cities but not outside of the normal range. Last time I looked it was a little less transient than Dallas TX.

The message there is it does turn over...but in the normal range.

It has historically grown fast doubling each decade for a number of decades. Much slower than that now...hardly growing at all. Though it likely will again. Hopefully not like last time.

It does feel like a transient town, but most that I meet usually stay for the long term and are treated the same as long term residents.

Who knows. Nobody knows beyond their day to day life. I still see the same faces on a daily basis. City life is always more anonymous and unforgiving.

If people move here and decide to leave, they usually do it within the first few years of being here. You are not even considered a local until you've survived your first summer here.

People who have stayed for more than three years tend to stick around for awhile, but since so many people in Vegas come from somewhere else, you do see a lot of folks who move " back home" to be closer to family as parents age and whatnot.

Yet the population numbers don't seem to vary much... in fact they never stopped rising.

It's always been called a transient town, but since the population has always grown rapidly, I don't see how they can say that. I used to think they meant that people move around all over town a lot ...which they do.

I'd like to know what the research says about who is a local. At one time the researchers at UNLV said nobody believes you will stay here unless you've lived here... three years if I remember right. And we locals didn't believe you were a local until after five years.

Personally I don't recognize anyone as a local until they've lived here about 30 years.

The numbers are always changing but there are people who do research it. The numbers usually show transience through how many leave, not net new residents. Lots of the stats are based on drivers licenses issued and surrendered in Clark County. As a percentage of people leaving LV is very transient.

That says it lost population by in and out migration. Does not say what the population is.

Census and other sources say slight growth since 2010.

According to google, Clark county gained population from 2011 to 2012, including 4 in my family.

I think the population will be at 3 million in 15 years. Plenty of room for growth in the southwest and north.
