Ok, screw the cab authority. They suck and they are ruining our city's most important industry.

If L.A. can bypass the bureaucratic/logistic/financial nightmare of extending their own light rail system to LAX, then surely we can extend our tram a few hundred yards to LAS here.

I mean seriously... look at how close we already are. This would be one of the cheapest and most beneficial public works projects this city has seen in decades. Look at this map and tell me it won't work:

The runway is literally like 2000 feet away from the end of the tram line!

It's not the cab authority. It's the cab companies and they're owners. They've spent big bucks in campaign contributions to make sure what your talking about never happens.

Great idea. Needs to happen but it won't! And yes, it's feasible.

OK. I looked at the map and I'm here to tell you it won't work. This isn't a reasonable, intelligent city. It's Las Vegas.

Every casino which isn't directly on the monorail will object, and they run this city. Every cabbie will object, and they'll pay off the commissioners, just like last time. It is better to expect that things are going to be mismanaged and corrupt and then be pleasantly surprised when it occasionally doesn't work out that way.

I could have said the same things about Los Angeles. Talk about a city with its head up its a**. The logistics of that light rail going to LAX is a far more problematic endeavor. LA is full of bureaucracy and stangnant politics. The land rights to make it happen are going to be a big, expensive issue, yet it's still happening because it makes sense.

I have to believe that the casinos which ARE on the Monorail line have enough pull of their own to get it done. Caesars Entertainment alone should be more powerful and have deeper pockets than all the cab companies put together.

Note the problem is more likely to be the googlemobile rather than the taxicabs. I can't think of a better fit to the googlemobile than here. Should be readily available by 2020.

the monorail is just in the wrong place and you really can't fix it without something massive. It is just too far from most of the hotels.

And note that in the odd way of Nevada you probably end up with the State in the act rather than Clark County. Cabs and Limos are state run for instance...and I expect the monorail would end up in state hands if it turns public. The airport however is pure Clark County.

On the other hand, you'd think the Monorail would go to Fremont with the increase in future development, tourism, industry, condos, planned up there in the next decade. There's a lot of money being spent and tourism has increased in the downtown area already and you'd think that some of those millions of dollars from private investors would oversee the development of the monorail. Is the monorail still "privately owned" or did Transit/Clark County take it over when it ran into financial difficulty years ago? I remember it almost stopped running as it was in bankruptcy I was told. I'm still quite amazed that a lot of visitors don't even know about it unless they are staying at one of the properties with a station in it and it is so empty...as compared to the packed sardine Deuce busses going up and down the Strip.
