I know the purpose of this thread is to get rid of Clear, but I wonder if it would work better with better hardware?

All the seem to offer are devices with tiny internal antennas. Maybe if they offered something that had an external, replaceable antenna, the user could upgrade the antenna as necessary to get better performance.

I am one of many who switched from CenturyLink to COX. I have no regrets and am happy with my service and internet speed.

I use Clear and once I called customer service and had them change my "range" things improved drastically. I live in Baltimore, but agree that the OP should try and troubleshoot before switching. My bill is reasonable, and I use it 24/7 for streaming Netflix via Roku, my computers and cellphone without issues.

No new devices are coming. WiMax is a failure, and Clear is just a tiny segment of Sprint's business now - one I'm sure they're looking to convert to LTE as quickly as possible so they can cut the expense of maintaining their WiMax network. If you want a better antenna on your Clear modem, you're going to have to break out the soldering iron and DIY.

Clear sucks out here. Really bad.

Cox made their initial investment in a solid fiber optic network, in part using money from the school district and SDMI which were the first two fiber customers, I believe. They dug up half of Las Vegas putting that fiber ring in.

Cox invested in the infrastructure early on, and are reaping the benefits of being the only viable game in town now.

Century Link is looking to catch up, but that company was Sprint--Embarq--Centurylink all within the last decade or so. Lots of turnover there.

I'm actually very happy with CenturyLink for internet, much faster data transfers than Cox for a heavy user. Although the provided modem is absolute garbage.

Their TV service absolutely blows though. Cutting that cable as soon as the contract is over and going back to DirecTV.
