It would be bad news for both Vegas and the CES. Corporations want somewhere cheap to hold their conventions, but convention goers want somewhere that has a 24 hour party. Moving the show to Houston or some other random city would hurt the CES badly in terms of attendance and visibility.

Hopefully, the LVCVA can squeeze hotel operators to ease up on the rates.

By the way, sherriff, your THECesspool joke is old, and it doesn't promote a two sided discussion, much like most of your other comments. Maybe you can ease up on the bitter sarcasm and still make your points? I think you're capable.

Please inform us how CES moving to Orlando, or some other city would hurt CES. As one who is in constant contact with tourists of all types, I can tell you the general consensus is that LV gouges, and does not live up to it's billing. THECesspool absolutely defines LV---check the second definition: cesspool: Definition, Synonyms and Much More from Answers.com

MacWorld is held in San Francisco which is a more expensive city. As a Mac user, I like the fact its held in the Bay Area because it is a tech item. I remember when they wanted to host CEBIT at the San Jose convention center but the city wasn't willing to compete with other cities. Could have brought the local economy some cash. Las Vegas is good at that though.

MacWorld draws about 90k; I would be willing to bet that 1/3 to 1/2 of the attendees live in the Bay Area, and doesn't have anywhere near the impact CES does on LV. With the current squeeze on corporations to pump the bottom line, ie: higher taxes on casinos, credit cruch, etc. LV had better be willing to prove itself a reasonable valued destination. I have heard for 5 or so years now that LV is no longer cost-effective to corporations--big, and small.

Computer conventions of any kind has no place in LV. I go to Mac World every year and its the best computer show by far. CEBIT is in Germany now, so that's out of the question. The largest Swimming Pool profesionals convention is in Long Beach .. Go figure that one!

Vegas isn't a cost effective destination any more, thanks to the Indian Gaming Casino's that have sprawled all throughout the state. When that had took place, Vegas went down hill and they had to raise rates to make up for their loss of income. 40% of LV's tourism annually are Californians. And to this day because of the Indian Gaming industry, LV is still afftected by income loss. It's sad that Vegas no longer has low cost family bargain vacationing any more. Adios to $ 5.00 Buffet's and $ 15 - $ 20.00 a night Hotel rooms. Vegas lost a lot of traditional spirit and culture when it had jumped on the corporate ladder and went to shocking outrageous prices for everything.

Las Vegas will suffer if they dont treat their customers better. Loosing something like CES would be a disaster.

Vegas has to be careful. It also has to keep the vacationer (usually domestic) of modest means in mind. People like that vacation there in droves all the time and contribute Billions of $$ to the economy. If everything goes Swank and high end, LV is in danger of losing a of this Business.

I think someone mentioned a lot of rich people from Europe and Asia that have been spending a lot of money here in Vegas. I'll have to research that more.
