Las Vegas is 4 hours from the Grand Canyon, 7 hours from Yosemite, 11 hours from Yellowstone, 8 hours from San Francisco.

In other words, it is ideally suited for an easterner to use as a travel base to see these and other attractions in CA/NV/AZ, etc. It might also wind up as our full year or part year retirement destination.

However, I've only been to Las Vegas once and know hardly anything about housing. So, I was thinking about renting an apartment, townhouse, place in a 55+ community, etc., for a couple of months to travel from to some of these sites and to experience up close what Las Vegas is as a place to live. Even if the resorts offered 2 month room rates, that might be an option.

Does anyone have suggestions, information, opinions? Thanks in advance.

By the way, I think the Las Vegas forum is one of the best maintained, most interesting and entertaining ones on City Data.

Read through / search the forum. Everything you're asking has been asked and answered numerous times, and all that info is here, waiting for you.

Start with the relocation sticky thread at the top.

In your situation, I would look at either AirBnB or an extended stay hotel. There are many monthlies around town, too, but by and large, they are in the areas you don't want to be for an extended amount of time.

There are furnished, corporate, extended stay apartments around, as well. I did a quick search, and for a 2 month stay this Spring, I found 22 listings. They run about $3K/mo.

Sometimes I notice threads with a few posts yet there could be hundreds or thousands of views. Now I know why.

You could get a furnished monthly rental in a nice part of town. It would run you around 2-3k/month.
