It's funny what you think about, and lately I have been thinking about my death, My will, etc
and like most I don't want to burden my family with funeral costs, etc.
So I have started looking for a 'pay in advance' service and doing internet research.

How to find affordable cremation | Las Vegas Review-Journal

Anyone else ever think about this?

In the end, it's critically important to have an Executor you can trust that you know will be there. And, have backups in place as well.

I'm worth more dead than I am alive so my family is good to go. I'm surprised that I am still alive.

Chuck me in a hole. Sell me to a chinese restaurant. Do anything but spend money dealing with my worthless corpse.

Put me on a public bus, play "Don't Fence Me In," and let random chance decide where I end up.

Exactly. You just want to make sure you have enough estate to cover your cremation cost. that's all you need.

I've thought about this and have told all my relatives that when I die, I don't want to cost them a penny. In fact, I said if any of them spend a dime on a funeral/coffin/cremation/etc., that I would come back and haunt them in their sleep.

First, become an organ donor. People really need them and in a way, it's poetic to have a piece of you live on in another person whose quality of life will be greatly improved.

Second, look into whole body donation. There are several places that will facilitate the transfer of your body to a medical school after you die (for free)... it's not like you're going to need it anymore. I have several doctors in my family and I know med schools really do need donors to help educate the next generation of doctors.

I visited my best friend's gross anatomy lab once. It's pretty creepy to see all these bodies under sheets, but once he uncovered his specific donor, it became very solemn. There's a great deal of gratitude and respect that these people receive after their death because doctors can really only learn how to do the hard stuff with real organs, real bones, etc. It's nice to know something good can come from death... certainly better than letting it rot underground for no good purpose.

Didn't they make a movie about this?

My Uncle did this...and I appreciate it SOOOO MUCH! When it's his time, everything is taken care of. I'm his only family, and aside from making sure things are done, I don't have to make any arrangements or anything....he's taken care of it all. I think it's a WONDERFUL thing to do!

My Mom has done the same for me...bless her heart! I need to do it for my kids, too...so they aren't faced with decisions that cause most folks to spend more than they should in an emotional time.
