I've been several times to the Downtown Summerlin shopping center. If you're just driving through the shopping center it can seem kind of dead during the weekdays. In the morning there is plenty of parking. After lunch it starts to fill up but it's still modest business and plenty of parking. After 6 pm is really when the magic happens and it seems to come alive with people going to dinner, shopping or going to the movies. I don't think it's at full capacity yet for the kind of business it could be doing with the exception of the weekends, when everywhere is busy, and the holiday shopping season.

Since it opened I have noticed congestion on the roads in that area coming from the 215. I finally figured out that Summerlin Center Drive is the direct road to take into the shopping center avoiding the congestion on Sahara or Charleston. That works perfectly for me, and the quickest way to get out is to take Pavillion Center Drive. There's even some new construction next to the Red Robin there in the middle of the shopping center.

Really that entire area on both sides of Charleston from the 215 down to the Durango area has some of the best shopping on the West Side so it's no wonder people are flocking there since Downtown Summerlin opened. I do see what the OP means about strange and scary people. I've seen some people that look like they're bodies are wasted and deteriorating. They're ultra thin, leather skinned, speaking and moving quickly and kind of twitchy but calm and not paranoid. I'm newer to Las Vegas so I just thought that was par for the course and perhaps meth or hard drugs was rampant here, because it is Sin City after all. Some of these people I've seen are employed at the 24hr places on the west side so...maybe they're here looking for work or working in places where the new growth in the city is?

Trader Joes and Nordstrom Rack are the only places at Downtown Summerlin that are consistently busy. It does get a little more busy in the evening hours. Today they are having some Earth Day Greenfest thing http://http://www.thinkenergystar.com/greenfest/
Might take my daughter just to check it out.

Most of the time all I see are cars with out of state plates at Downtown Summerlin. I don't know why tourists would want to visit that mall there is nothing special there. Maybe they stop on the way to or back from Red Rock Canyon.

They might be people spending time at their vacation/winter homes. That's also the group that has a lot of disposable income.

Maybe because Downtown Summerlin is unique compared to all the Strip Malls around town?

Certainly true in Sun City Summerlin. The population fluctuates wildly between summer and winter.

I dont think it's unique at all. Most of the stores in Downtown Summerlin have multiple locations. I personally hate the layout of the place.

True I didnt think about that. Better food and shopping on the strip though.

Today is Earth Day and there are many people at the shopping center, I was playing a tour guide with my aunt who is visiting from out of the country. Weekdays is a different story at the shopping center, slow and less people and as I have said more employees than shoppers. No Im not putting down the shopping center but it needs more shoppers for the businesses to thrive and survive. Purely for comparison, Town Square Las Vegas is always busy with shoppers and diners everyday, love that place!
