Q-tip with a little clear Vaseline on the end, gently swab into each nostril nightly before going to bed - eliminates the dry air nosebleeds!

During the Spring months, when my electric bill is so low, I add $100-$200 to the bill, and build up a reserve for the summer months. Makes it a lot less painful!

Why not just put the extra money into to something that carries interest so that you make money instead of giving it to Warren Buffett? He has quite enough already.

Or you could sign up for NV Energy's averaging program, so your bills are roughly the same all year.

Also, where were these temps taken? The airport? The temperature varies, quite wildly, throughout the city. I have several phone photos of my truck's thermometer across several days of 112+ temps.
I have been keeping track of the weather for the last couple of years here. We hit our first heat wave from June 29-July 4. We had temps of 108, 110, 111, 109, 108, and 106. It was 110 and 109 on July 23-24. Aug 1 and 17, it was 106. We didn't go over 105 the rest of the summer. The monsoon season last year was unusually cool in Las Vegas.

I love the idea of the averaging program but I am very afraid I would give in to temptation to set the AC at a comfortable level because after all the bill is averaged! Then I would end up with a huge bill at the end of the year!

You could learn to love a swamp cooler, perhaps?

That's been my strategy. I grew up in Texas. My last summer in Texas I left on the 57th day of 100 degree temps. When I'm alone, I use box fans to stay cool in the apartment. When we have company over, I have to remember to turn the air on so they are comfortable. It's what I used in Texas, and it's what I'll use during my first summer in Vegas.

I'm lucky in that I like it when it's 85f. That's the temperature I like best. I can keep in the 80s most of the day using swamp coolers -- except on those rare 100f+ AND humid days. Then I switch over to AC.

It's how I keep my electric bills lower than $150 in the summer.

And from what thermometer are you getting you information from, and more importantly, where is that thermometer located?

I have watched the temps swing 10 degrees in the 30-45 minutes it takes to get from summerlin to my house on the east edge. Put on the news tonight, and pay close attention to the temperature map they put up. You'll see quite a lot of variance on that map...
