I'd still be careful about using Uber because taxi drivers are Teamsters, and we've seen what they can do to non-union drivers in the past.

Pfffft! I was a cabbie there during the last strike and I wasn't union nor did I strike...They huffed and they puffed but they all backed down when I stood my ground! Bunch of foreign chicken***ts with a few local losers thrown in....they weren't very formidable by any means!

It will be a while working out. On the strip there is a well established system that practically controls the number of vehicles and where they are. Vast numbers of cabs are queued up in various casino lines stacking them out of traffic. Now we suddenly have a few thousand more vehicles at peak times.

There is a thing called gridlock that occurs when the streets get so loaded that the intersections block up and no one can move. So enough Uber aqnd Lyft and gridlock.

How to fix? Well if you run Uber and Lyft into the taxi lines you defeat the algorithm. They can no longer go to the client calling them. If you don't then those vehicles are waiting in traffic and bring on the gridlock.

How about peak hours at the airport? Ever try to drop off during the peak? Now add 25% more cars...

Going to be fun.

How.do they handle limos now? Since Uber cars don't come till called, they shouldn't be clogging up the casino porte cocheres. But they'll have to hole up somewhere till called. Probably somewhere at the back of the casinos, in there service lots.

Limo population is sparse. Even at a busy fancy hotel you see one every 10 or so minutes. They then go away and hide on convenient side streets or parking lots. Call on cell phone and they come back and get you. We actually set up dispatcher at certain shows and would deal with 15 or 20 limos.

If the resort is not busy they will let the limos wait out front.

This turns into a much bigger deal just because there may be a lot more vehicles involved. At the moment the taxicab authority controls the number of cabs on the street...but that is not obviously going to work with Uber.

The supposed increase number of cars because of Uber don't seem to cause any problem in other cities (San Fran, LA, NYC...).

Nobody has the strip. Uber obviously though it could be a problem and did not pick up on the strip in their initial run. I would virtually guarantee a problem. The strip is a well oiled machine and we just threw more parts into it.

If uber takes a customer to the airport, that's one less cab that makes the trip in, so there is no increase in cars going to the airport.

I haven't read the legislation, but I wonder how they will control the number of Uber drivers. Or will they? And can they just pick you up in the back ...in the parking garage maybe? At some point, if there are too many, nobody will make any money. Expect this issue to be revisited by the legislature in the future.

Never driven a cab ...only have driven some cabbies crazy... but I don't think it works that way.

That's what I mean. Teamsters are not the gangsta types they used to be. But that could change. I think the owners are the ganister types they used to be...and that's a big maybe. But a imagine a lot of the foreign cabbies' ICE cards wouldn't hold up under too much scrutiny
