I'm going to buy a house in Las Vegas but I don't know where yet. I need to get into an apartment first but I don't know the city. What parts should I keep away from and where might be the best place to live for a couple of months in an apartment until I can buy a house?

Stay away from North Las Vegas, it feels like another state all the way up there.....

Tried and true rule, furthest from the Strip the better...except to the east.

East of the strip makes up about 1/3 of Las Vegas so your saying to not live in 2/3 of Las Vegas? The VA hospital is in the North so should I stay away from that area?

In general the rule is avoid the NE quadrant. and avoid anything near the strip. Basically get within a few miles of 215 or past it. The area close to the VA hospital will work or continue to the west. You got ten miles of housing along the 215 west of the VA Hospital.

(Edit - screwed up first writing. Said SE when I meant NE. Brain F#rt)

Spring Valley has plenty of choices and it's in the center of Clark County, from mid to upper end rentals. On West Flamingo Rd with Decatur as boundary heading West are townhomes, condos, lofts, apts....Goodluck!

I'd say summerlin is the best area by far. Definitely stay away from the east side.
