Ok, so everywhere else I've lived (UT, AZ, NM, OR, CA) I've been able to easily find a place to hold "meetup" groups for free, usually at a library or communtiy center. But I'm having a devil of a time finding similar venues here in LV - is there anything like that here? The library wants to charge $60! ($30/hr, 2hr minimum).

The only time I've ever been charged at a library was in Phoenix, and that was a nominal $5 for however long I wanted. Library space is free in Salt Lake, Albuquerque, Portland. Even in resort towns like Sedona, Prescott, and Santa Fe library conference rooms are free. (including large, theatre style rooms with sound systems/overhead video projection).

Anyways, just was wondering if anyone here has done "meetup" or similar study-groups, and where they find a place to meet for free/nominal fee? I had originally planned to meet at the W. Charleston library until I ran into the exhorbitant fee (as compared to similar venues in other cities), so something in that area would be preferred, if possible(?)

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Great answer, Dyn. And $30/hr isn't bad at all. Just charge a very small entrance fee to cover it.

Florida also has no state income tax and using meeting rooms in libraries were free.

Does anyone in your group own their own business or have a great boss that would let you meet up at their space?

That's an awefully big ASS-umption. I actually run writing groups, web designer meet-ups, and basic computer education/interest groups. I've never - ever - run a sales meeting! If I were doing something "for profit," of course I'd charge a fee and would not hesitate to. Usually (as in all of the places mentioned) as long as the group was open to the public and you were not charging anything, the room was free. And I'm pretty sure NV has property and other taxes. Where I've lived before the libraries were paid for through sales tax, not income tax anyway.

Thanks for snide remarks! Genuine thanks to those who actually posted possible solutions.

You must be from, or really like Southern California - that's the only other place I've lived that charged similarly for library rooms. BUT, they had a plethora of community centers that did not charge for their rooms.

Have you tried contacting a church near by where you want to meet up? Maybe offer allow their members to attend?

Does it have to be a private room with doors that shut? I've been to class meet-ups at Coffee Shops, Panara Bread, stuff like that. As long as you are buying coffee they don't care. The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf by UNLV has a back room with a nice long metting table.
